You didn't mention which version of Safari you are using (i.e. from Safari -> About Safari) in your original post nor in response to others' responses. Also I am assuming you are accessing Google Maps from https://www.google.com/maps but let us know if you are using a different URL. In the meantime, I just did quick tests from Mojave and Catalina systems with the last version of Safari each supported (v.14.x and v.15.x respectively) and both worked fine.
Note that unless you are on Safari V.16 (requires Big Sur or Monterey)) or ideally V.17 (requires Monterey or later), you may have trouble accessing some sites. There was a time I couldn't access Instagram from Safari 14 or 15. I don't use Instagram but every once in a while someone sends me a link to something there. Annoying but it prompted me to upgrade to more modern browsers. Older versions of Safari have known security holes and limitations so if you aren't on V.16 or preferablly V.17 you should either upgrade your Safari, upgrade your OS so you can upgrade your Safari, or switch to a different browser (Firefox, Chrome, Orion, etc).
