I thought i should share this article i read that i found very intersting. It states how those NEW phone plans are what are ripping us off :] however the last line of the article is my fav " 'Look how much revenue AT&T is getting from the iPhone," said Golvin. "It's easy for Verizon to make hay of AT&T's problems, but it's a problem that Verizon wishes it had' " hehehe

That's complete crap. People that are generally buying these lower grade "Multimedia Phones" are buying them for the full layout keyboards so they can use it for easier texting. People aren't buying them for internet surfing and it's because the browsing options on these phones are crap!!!

Why are wireless carriers allowed to get away with things like this?!?!?! This is like your cable company saying that they're going to make you start purchasing their low grade cable internet just because you have a PC in the house. When will the madness stop?!?!?!

Because America is a capitalistic free society where business is allowed to charge what it wants for the goods and/or services they provide. Nobody is forcing people to buy smartphones or multimedia capable phones, and there are a lot of options besides AT&T including prepaid which charges the same regardless.

Well I have a dirty secret as well! I've been tethering since the beginning of '09 MUWAHAHAHAH!

Not necessarily. Remember the numerous times the FCC was forced to step in sue to things like this? If they find it necessary, they will (hopefully).

As for the OP, I agree. Wireless carriers, at least in the USA, can be extremely unfair.

Exactly.

I managed to make it through about 30 years of life without a cellphone and then another 10 years without internet access on my cellphone.

If the fees I am charged are not worth it I can reduce my level of service, switch providers or go without.

Too many people act like helpless victims.

Ummm... do you realize how much people in some countries pay for voice and data services on their phone? Wireless carriers in this country aren't "ripping people off" nearly as much as you think they are. Look it up.

Unrelated to my original quoting of vinay427, one of the other reasons the carriers are doing this is because they receive hundreds of calls everyday from upset customers that have received large bills due to data usage. And don't give me the crap about how you" didn't want a phone that does data" or "didn't mean to be on the internet for an extended time." It's your responsibility, deal with it.

Someone earlier said it best that everybody acts like they are helpless victims. No, you're nothing more than helpless fools.
