I noticed with quite a few encodes is the volume levels on the final rip is so soft & quiet.

my settings are:

Straight from DVD Drive or DVD Rip with MTR.

Handbrake:
Apple Universal
Audio: 320Kbps 48Khz
DCR: 0.0

so its basically the default settings for Apple Universal preset just bumped the audio from 160Kbps to 320Kbps.

compared to the DVD rip the handbrake rip is significantly quieter.
playing the dvd throw my hdtv with the built in speakers i can have it set at 22~27 and its perfect and clear.
with the handbrake rip i have to bump it upto 42~49 and its OKAY but not great.

i tried the handbrake forums, but i noticed a sloooow repsonse time and usually with not much help.
so maybe someone who has had alot more experience getting the best out of the settings and making it similar to the DVD or iTunes versions.

Space is generally not an issue, and id like to have compatibility with Apple products (Touch, iPhone, Mac iTunes, AppleTV eventually)

thanks alot!

*edit*

Should note, im using the latest 64bit handbrake and the goldeneye vlc 64bit intel version.

Keeping the audio as passthrough (assuming it's AC3 and you have Dolby Digital capable receiver or TV), would yield the best overall quality.

well heres the settings used:

using the speakers on the macbookpro and hdtv the audio and volume dialogue is just ridiculously quiet and soft sounding.
using a 5.1 set up doesnt seem to make too much of a difference.

Do you have the user core audio check box selected in handbrake preferences -> audio? My only guess. I used to have this problem with .9.3, but since .9.4, sound has been great using core audio. But i had thought that was checked by default.

Yes. it is checked.

I'am stumped too, i asked on the forums but nothing more than re-read the guide, but it doesnt really tell me about audio quality output.

when you rip what settings are you using? ill give it a try to test against my encodes and the dvd source...

generally is there much difference form your handbrake encodes versus the source/dvd, etc...

thank you.
