I'd like to hear your opinions / experience using the 30" Cinema Display, especially those of you who are using the 30" Apple monitor.

Any quality problem? Is there any issue to look out for? How does it fare after a year of moderate usage?

Do you think it offers good value? Any competing product which one might want to consider or is there a better alternative?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

For me its a personal issue. I went and saw the 30" in the Apple Store and was impressed, but felt it was too big a screen to take in at once - especially if you sit in front of it for a while. I opted for 2 Dell 24" and it suites my workflow better - I can keep things organized a little better when I have a couple apps open at once - like Flash and Photoshop, or Lightwave and Modeler, etc.

I'd go see one in person, just to make sure you want to spend the money on it.

As for quality - some are good, but there are also some bad ones out there - I think iGary had to return 2 before he got one that was defect free.

Good luck,

D

I don't own one, but I have seen them in store. They do look amazing and I haven't heard or read of any quality problems. However like Dr.A mentioned, they seem a bit too big/imposing for a computer screen. They're more in league with a TV IMO.

My advisor uses it ... it is really huge and in way nice too. But i guess it is the affordability that matters... there is Dell 30" released recently. I did not use for a long time though

30" is great, but 2x20" cinema displays maybe better

I agree with the previous post that the 30" maybe a little overwhelming to work with at first. Maybe its is better to get 2x20" cinema displays.

Here in Oz, 2x20" is about $4000 AU while 30" is $3999 AU. I really think working with two displays is better... graphics wise.

Its worth the money to get a 30" though, it just all depends what ur using it for.

Previously rumoured apple 42" plasma viiv didnt show, might have to wait till April. Hopefully the burn-in risk on a plasma is less with whatever plasma screen apple utilises. This may be a better alternative, if you're not in a hurry to buy, wait till the 30 anniv April foolsday... they might announce it.

This could be a good option. I suppose it depends on what you're planning on doing with the display.
