"Swiss iPhone developer Nicolas Seriot presented last night a talk on iPhone Privacy in Geneva. He showed how a malicious application could harvest personal data on a non-jailbroken iPhone (PDF) and without using private APIs. It turns out that the email accounts, the keyboard cache content and the WiFi connection logs are fully accessible. The talk puts up several recommendations. There is also a demo project on github."

and thats why programmers can put a Trojan horse (essentially) in their program which waits a month, or 2, or even 4 to activate. Apple cants pridict that, or catch all cases of it before it happens.

It's already happened. Cannot recall the name of the app, but it was a rather good version of Bejeweled. Many levels, decent sound, and the added ability of reading all your contacts and sending them to a central server.

That version was quickly pulled. The programmers may have been shot. Or at least glared at quite nastily.
