Both yesterday and today, my MacPro5,1 has grinded to a halt and displayed a window saying "Your system has run out of application memory." The only way to get back normal functionality has been to reboot. The only recent changes I have to my system is to upgrade from 10.12.3 to 10.12.4 and from Drive Genius 4 to 5.

Activity monitor is showing a kernel_task of 9.41GB, and about 50 'clamscan' entries of between 200MB and 750MB. So my 16GB of RAM are completely used. Does anyone know what app the process 'clamscan' belongs to? 'Drive Pulse' in Drive Genius 5 has a new malware scanner that works in the background. Could it be that one?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, thanks. I had forgotten that I had ClamXav installed. I haven't used it though in a long time, but perhaps it's been doing things in the background. Anyway, I've uninstalled it now so hopefully this solves my issue.

Has anyone else had issues with ClamXav?
