I don't really know the dimensions of the old air but is the new air thinner? I personally think the old air looks better

I expected to see more complaints like yours. In reality, Jobs answered this when the MBP and MB were updated. Jobs said that the Nvidia GPU offered such a better overall Mac experience, that it wasn't worth it to stick users with Core i-series CPUs and integrated Intel IGPs.
I am welcoming another C2D along with Nvidia 320m GPU. We're getting 2X the GPU performance vs. losing 1/2 to 2/3 by going with Intel's IGP and only gaining about 20% in CPU performance. We are better off this route whether people think it or not, in MY opinion. Intel is so good with its marketing that it makes people think the only way to improve their computer is with a faster CPU. In reality, it's the GPU, NAND Flash over SSD, software like instant on, and etc that make the computer faster for the average user.
I would say we have learned a few things where the MBP is going too. I suspect with the recovery moving to an SD card, that Apple will eliminate the optical drive completely with future Mac notebook updates. The other Mac notebooks will probably get the wedge shape when eliminating the optical drive. The next Mac notebooks will probably have the NAND Flash and an optical drive too to get 128 GB where main OS and apps are stored. Lots of great innovation today.
I wish they could have made it less tapered, allowing for more internal space so the giant bezels would go away. I wish I have a cnc machine so I can fit the 13" screen into the 11in lid.
The lack of the black glass bezel? (Though I'm no expert in these matters, so I could be wrong.)
I love the fact that the display is matte.
Now need to decide between the MBA 11 or iPad for Christmas gift for the wife.
Its definitely glossy all around.

Upgradable SSD? Memory?
I'd like to first find out if the SSD can be upgraded using a 3rd party drive, and I'd also like to know if the memory is soldered onto the motherboard or if that's upgradable too. Every one of their systems (except the Mac Pro) has 4 GB RAM standard. These should too.
I will have to see the both of them in person and try them out before I decide if I want one. If so then I guess my Rev C. MBA will go the way of EBay, or here on the marketplace.
Definitely getting iLife 11 immediately though.

I wish the same. I would prefer a .68" across entire MBA. That would allow the extra space needed for some LED backlights for the keyboard, JK. But seriously, maybe it would have allowed the battery it got without the other compromises we had to make to get it. Also, we currently have a 5-hour MBA, and I will be surprised if the new one actually gets 5 hours. I don't have a lot of faith in the battery quotes.
I am really happy with many things though, and I feel like the next MBP will probably look a lot like this MBA without an optical drive too. Probably not a wedge but maybe .68" across the entire case. Imagine that would be a heck of an MBP... almost worth carrying around if it gets down to 4 lb. But as of right now, the MBA will be a lot faster for the average user than the MBPs.

Although... I hope it won't have as much reflective glare as my MBP due to the lack of a glass overlay? I guess I'll have to see it in person at an apple store.
I also don't like the fact they are using the C2D cpu in the 13in model, and kind of wish they went with the intel i core LM cpu and nvidia 320m combo(with the integrated intel gpu disabled), that way it could make the price more justifiable.
I kind of want to move back to a macbook and 11.6 model look like a real nice replacement for my old ibook and possibly even for my Vaio TT, but lack of a ports is a no for me. I can real with one usb port, but it is the lack of fireware, even firewire mini that is keeping me away(have a lot of files on my external that I only hook up via firewire). I think I can also deal with going with an external optical drive.

I can real with one usb port, but it is the lack of fireware, even firewire mini that is keeping me away(have a lot of files on my external that I only hook up via firewire). Might have been nice to have the 4GB not as a BTO option, but at least this time it was available, and that was good enough for me, given what I use the machine for and what it can do (now with better graphics and better storage, and that extra USB port). This isn't my main computer. It's my travel computer. Less than 3 lbs. v. 4.5 lbs. (13.3 MBP) makes a huge difference. I opted for 13.3 MBA for keyboard and display real estate - Air Display (iPad app) enhances display real estate further where necessary. 13.3 MBA weight + iPad weight = 13.3 MBP weight.

It's not a netbook -- it's a CULV laptop. A very glorified one.
While the smaller size, lower weight, faster load times thanks to SSD, and improved resolution are attractive, I'm put off by the fact that it's the same price as the white MacBook. My white polycarbonate MacBook recently died and I'm stuck using a broken one as a desktop. I was considering getting the MBA as a supplement to the desktop, since recently, I'd only been using my notebook for typing and web browsing. However, I like having the possibility of power in the event I need it, e.g. Photoshop, occasional gaming, development, etc. Since the MacBook is the same price as the MBA at the cost of size, weight, resolution, and increased load times, you get an optical drive, faster processor, bigger hard drive, and double the battery life of the 11" model.
The battery is another thing that disappoints me. I realize that they went with a smaller battery to conserve weight and size, but five hours is pathetic. Both MacBooks that I've owned had lives around 5 hours; if I were to get a desktop supplement, I would want something that could last a ridiculous amount of time. Considering that it has SSD and C2D, you'd think the power consumption would be minimal. Oh well, looks like I'll most likely be getting a MacBook instead before long.
