I just want whatever hardware the next MacBooks will have, and the base price lowered back down to $499. FW800 would be great, but at the least keep the current FW400 that's sufficient for my needs.

Hmm, I doubt they would put a e5200 or a e7200 in a Mac mini partially because it would make too much heat for its size and also the Mac mini has a laptop CPU in it, so you won't be able to fit a desktop mobo in there with a northbridge and south brige and have enough space for 2 RAM slots.

Apple could bring back the cube form factor and use "normal" desktop components (like the CPUs, also the normal sized DVD-RW, 3,5" HDD, and a dedicated card, or at least a free PCI-Express 16x slot).

That would be awesome, I second that statement.

Honestly, I would like to see a Mac Mini with the following:

Core Quad (I don't care if its a 1.66Ghz Quad, because it will still be fast)
4 ~ 8 GB of memory

Yeah thats about it for me, I'm fine with everything else. I just would really like to see a Core Quad Mini!

Id lust like to see it updated with a few faster CPU options, 2GB Ram as standard and potentially a SSD. As long as it has better than the embedded Intel graphics I will like it.

(perhaps it would be nice to have FW800 and potential to have 4GB Ram)

Like many people who have posted I would love to see a larger case size that could hold two internal hard drives and use a real replaceable video card.

Watching the normal Apple pattern I guess the best hope would be the same external design with a 2.4 GHz processor, larger hard drive and X3100 graphics.

From a practical standpoint 1GB of RAM would be fine since that is the first thing I update with a new system.

I agree with G5power, I bigger case and two hard drives and a replaceable graphics card would make the ultimate Mac Mini. . . or they could just call it a Power Mac and bring that name back :D!

To get me to upgrade my mini they will need to throw in dedicated video definitely. I would also like to see a 3.5" drive, firewire 800 and/or e-sata, and possibly HDMI-out.

Two 3.5 inch drive bays would be very nice.

Any more I would even be willing to accept two 2.5 inch bays. It would limit the drive options but still would allow Apple to offer a very small form factor and have very distinct technical distinctions from the Pro line.

A $499.99 price point does break a psychological barrier for many people.

Having a good and then a best mini at say $499 and at $699 or even $799 offers potential buyers a nice starting point.

I often start out looking at the lowest price point and as I save money and research usually "talk" myself up to the higher end model.

why don't they just get rid of the mini and introduce a $800 Macbook. If the mini uses notebook mobos and processors why not just pay an extra $200 for a mobile version?

Because I don't want a 800 laptop, I would not want an 800 laptop to act as my tivo unit. I can not replace the CPU in my Macbook, however I can replace the CPU in my Mac Mini.

All I hope for is that the new Mac Mini will have similar specs as the MacBook.

I'm new to all this Mac Rumor stuff (my last Mac was an iMac G3:)) and after reading the news and forum a lot - I get nervous and worry Apple might get rid of the Mini at all,...

Fairly simple really - just a dedicated graphics card, maybe slightly better processor options. I've been in the market for a new desktop for months and I've been holding out for a mac mini update - if it doesn't happen before Christmas then I'll be stuck with a micro***** box again, or a hackintosh.

I would be honestly surprised if they got rid of their Mac Mini line, it really helped their sales and people that wanted to convert to Mac because it was inexpensive and they could use all their old peripherals so they did not have to buy a new monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner, etc.

I still view the Mac Mini as the second coming of the G4 Cube personally. The only difference was $599 for the Mac Mini and $2499 for the G4 Cube.

2GB RAM standard
bigger standard hard drive (maybe 250 GB or so?)
price cut to $499 base model
Everything else can stay the same as far as I'm concerned, but it would be nice if the current high end model became the new low end one.

HDMI and Blu-Ray. That's all that's missing for me to use it as a media hub. Well, that and the ability to actually play Blu-Ray
