is it me or is the youtube app more of an annoyance than a niceity now? if you signup for a YouTube account and load up the html5 beta EVERY SINGLE video now plays in the browser, like normal YouTube.

im so sick of the iPad opening the YouTube app for watching videos, I have to copy paste every damn link i get haha. if this is being positioned as better than a netbook and it has the ability to really use the full Internet, why the hell are you making me use your crappy app to watch videos? you don't see my MacBook pro opening up a YouTube app for videos just safari with HTML5 cause flash sucks.

apple get on this asap, major annoyance.

Major annoyance that YouTube is opened when you want to play a YouTube video? The iPad may not be for you my friend.

I think this is because its a transition period for Youtube. Youtube is slowly transitioning over to HTML5, but I don't think their site is fully up to snuff and therefore I think Apple wants people buying iPad's to still have the Youtube app.

I think in a year or two, when every video on Youtube is available in html5, and works just as good as the flash videos, that the youtube app will then be unneccesary, and Apple will either get rid of it, or make it an optional download. For now though, its probably a good option.

If the you tube video is embedded into the thread it just plays in safari. But if it is a link then it opens the app. At least that is how it has worked for me so far.

Then they won't play in the Youtube app either, or even show up at all I would imagine.

The ones that don't work in HTML5 are, amongst others, the ones with ads (ie. most videos). Most of those still have an H.264 version though, which work, without ads (funnily enough), on Apple devices.

And yeah, I just realised yesterday that opening YouTube links always switches to the app rather than using the sliding viewer in Safari like the iPhone. It's not that annoying imo, and easily fixed.
