YouTube broken on Safari

For a few weeks now almost every video I start on YouTube plays for a few seconds, then stops and restarts from the beginning.

It seems that the videos start playing with the VP09 codec, then switch to AV01, then restart and switch back to VP09. I have a M3 Pro, so AV01 decoding should be the way to go.

This only happens on Safari. Chrome and Firefox are fine.

Does anybody else have this problem and found a solution?

I have Premium, so I don't use an adblocker on YouTube. But I've also uninstalled all extensions and it didn't change anything.

Same here as well, I ended up using Vivaldi browser in the end as it does not have this issue.

Try to delete Safari's cache from
- the Develop menu (⌥⌘E) https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/advanced-ibrw1075/26.0/mac/26 Settings - Advanced - "Show the Develop menu in the menu bar"
- Finder by deleting ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Safari/Data/Library/Caches

Fascinating. I can at least say that isn't happening to me (with an M1 Mac), but I'd be curious to know whether you get anywhere and learn anything.
