Since this morning, when I watch youtube video in HTML 5 player in Safari, it keeps freezing. Watching youtube video with flash player is not a problem. I have Yosemite 10.10.1 and everything is updated. It only starts this morning. I was wondering if it is a problem on the youtube end or something is wrong in my end. Anyone experience same issue now?

Safari : Youtube doesn't play videos

Hi,

I'm unable to watch videos on youtube in Safari but everything works in Chrome.

When the video is supposed to start, there's a weird noise and the frame stays black, something youtube error appears. If I put a random time in the url, it works. (example http://youtu.be/HgdYgz_m9Rg?t=30s)

I tried clean the cache, doesn't change anything.
I use the html5 player and I'm on yosemite 10.10

Can anyone help me?

I have the same problem since this morning. I experience exact the same symptom. Any youtube video that does not support HTML 5 plays fine in flash player. No idea how to solve this problem. Also, I don't know whether this is the problem on the youtube end or on the Mac end.

I use Safari without Flash installed and see the same thing starting today. Works fine with Flash in Chrome.

I think something is broken on the Youtube side. I was able to watch YT yesterday with the exact same setup.

Edit: Just found this. Looks like a widespread issue.

Adobe Released a new flash version

Adobe has a new flash player for mac and shut off the old version. I'M ON HOLD WITH APPLE CARE AS I TYPE WAITING FOR A SUPERVISOR BECAUSE DOWNLOADING THE NEW VERSION OF FLASH PLAYER AND DELETING the Safari history and going into Library and deleting saved setting in Safari has not yet cleared the problem (sorry for the caps, hit cap lock by mistake with the pone held to my ear). Works OK with firefox so it's an Adobe flash v Safari problem

This has nothing to do with Flash. This issue is related to the YT HTML5 player that does not even use Flash.

Show them that link in my post #2 up there. It appears to be something YT changed that broke HTML5 playback in Safari. From the posts in that thread it looks like it starts working again if you turn in the developer menu then set the Safari user agent to something else like Chrome. That makes YT think you are on Chrome and it apparently works again. I have not messed with that since I figured YT will fix this soon.

Yes, This has been happening to me since Mavericks. Every time my MacBook crashes I send a repot with the pop up window that appears after the Safari crash or restart. I joined the Public Beta for Yosemite and I have sent feedback through the Feedback Assistant. It has gotten a bit better, not as many frequent crashes ,but its still not fixed as of 10.10.1 Public Beta

Same problem.

2014 retina macbook pro dual core i5.

Yosemite, Safari version 8.0 (10600.1.25.1).

I get a weird scribble noise, and the video just loads and never plays.

I've changed User Agent to Safari 7.1 for a temporary fix.

Changing User Agent to Safari 6.2 seems to be working for me. Thanks for the tip!

I, and Apple Care, initially thought it was Adobe's new flash derive at fault. But the senior advisor I eventually was able to talk to also ran into the same problems I did with two different computers and it became apparent that it was YT at fault, like Weaseboy originally pointed out! Glad it is back to normal. I was getting an horrible snapping noise overtime I tired to load a video. It was freaking me out:eek:
