I need some assistance on viewing specific youtube videos on my iPhone 3G. i can never seem to just type in a youtube address and have the video play. I always get the message "youtube not available".

The video today that I was trying to view was in the iPhone forum: Baby eats iPhone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9dDWnn68I8

I tried entering the URL into Safari and just got a funny little symbol on the youtube page indicating the vid wouldn't play. Then I used the mobile version of macrumors just to click on the link - it launched the youtube application then said "youtube not available".

Anyone have any advice/experience with this? Thanks in advance. :)

It looks like you can't play it on your iPhone because that video is encoded with Flash, which the iPhone and iPod Touch can't play. That's why you get the unavailable symbol in Safari and it says "youtube not available" in the app. Not all YouTube videos are available on the iPhone, only the ones YouTube has available in the H.264 format.

I didn't realize there were differences in youtube videos and since the iPhone doesn't play Flash your response makes perfect sense. Thanks Norouzi!! :D

I have a similar problem; a couple days ago I could play a song in youtube but I tried yesterday and it says Format not supported or something of that nature.

Hmmm, not sure why it would work one day and then not work. Does the video still work if you try to view it from a desktop? Might be a problem with the video itself not the iPhone. Also found this Discussion at Apple don't know if it applies to you or not.
