Anyone having a similar issue or knows how to resolve it? Thanks

I haven't played youtube on my iPhone yet, but I was playing with the sample one in the store and I noticed that. Weird. Yea, on my iPod Touch they look great. I guess it's to cut loading time, but it's so bad I don't even wanna watch a video!

It is working exactly how it is supposed to. They have a lower quality version for the slower connections so you don't have to wait as long to watch the video.

Maybe they could have just let the iPhone 3G use the wifi quality videos but i'm sure ATT would like to cut bandwidth usage anywhere they can.

I was shocked at this too. I heard youtube was pretty bad with edge, but know how slow it is, just getting youtube streaming I thought was good enough. But with 3G, it seems like they didn't change it take advantage of the bandwidth, so it's the same quality as with EDGE. Which often is blurry, giant macroblock mess. With wifi, some of the stuff I've seen is as sharp and clear as itune music videos.

Even worse, I like to use youtube for music, so I don't care about the picture quality all the time, but even the audio takes a noticeable hit too.

Also, the MLB at Bat instant replays look horrendous over 3G, maybe worse than youtube. I think it reminds me of the days when streaming was new over dialup.

I sure hope they update youtube app to take advantage of 3G, or a Safari starts to support flash for at least video features like the real youtube.

Does ATT limit bandwidth on other smartphones for things like video? Other phones do live tv, slingbox, right? We're paying the same $30 for unlimited data (forced I may add), yet they feel they can cripple the service of one user group?

sorry for reviving this thread, but YouTube quality does suck ass on our phones!!!

i played with my friends' HTC Diamond tonight, which does have a higher res than the iphone, but the iPhone can handle better quality from what i've seen from the dvd's i've uploaded onto my iPhone.

the HTC Diamond's vid quality is amazing off of YouTube and it makes me mad that that's one of the areas that the iPhone needs some work in.

is there any way to fix this?
i mean it looks good on wifi, but there shouldn't be a change just cause we're on 3g... i mean, it's freaking 3G! just like the Diamond is running on to view YT.

nevermind, i found a fix.

mxTube ftw.
if you don't have it yet on your JB'd iPwn, you should get it.
super quality off 3g plus option to download.
i know it's old news, but i just got my iPhone last month.

Another solution is "Truveo" from AOL...it's a video search engine app that integrates with YouTube among other video sources. The UI isn't as nice as the YouTube app but it does stream in high quality regardless of connection.
