YouTube appears to have removed the ability to choose 1080p and above on their iOS app! Until today I have been able play videos at native resolution whatever it was but tonight suddenly it only allows 720p. On 4g it doesn't even allow that!
I don't understand why they seem to have done this!
Am I alone with this problem? A Google search found no recents posts about this anywhere.
Help!

Which carrier do you use? Certain carrier plans that allow features similar to binge-on have to throttle your data i.e. play video at lower resolution, in order to allow unlimited viewing/unlimited data.

I'm in UK with O2 on a 30gb per month so can't be that!

I'm on o2 but I don't think I've ever been able to select video quality on YouTube with any of my iPhone's over cellular. On wifi I can. Up to 1080p on my iPhone 6S plus and up to 1440p on my iPad Air 2 and mini 3.

I could select up to 4K until yesterday on wifi but then only 720p since yesterday. Think will have to call o2. It would be strange for them to limit is as I only use less than half my data allowance each month! But even if they did it would not explain the change when using wifi!

I doubt it's O2 it's probably something from youtube's end. They have done this in the past, even over wifi. They are constantly messing about with the settings.
