Hi,

I've recently noticed a very large decrease of performance when i open up and buffer a Youtube clip. Everything slows down and the computer doesn't react to my input until the clip has loaded properly, even on 360p clips.

I know youtube can be demanding, and I'm running the 2.3 GHz i5 with 8 gb's of ram. Other than Safari, I'm running mail, Skype and numbers in the background. Doesn't seem to matter if i close the other programs or not. I normally have between 3-4 gb's of RAM inactive and <1gb free according to iStat pro. Also the CPU usage doesn't seem to spike while buffering/opening youtube.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
Thanks!

I have experienced the same slowdown the last 6 weeks or so on my Mac mini 2.5GHz i5 4GB and on my iMac 2.5GHz i5 8GB. It seems that after videos are fully downloaded, after I refresh (using Safari) the videos play normally.

Its not your computer. Its Youtube.
I often experience the same thing. Even my PC using friends have said Youtube sucks lately. So it isn't a Mac thing either (least of all a MacMini thing)
I do know that Youtube are trailing this HTML5 video hoopla though, and I suspect it is related to that.
If you go here: www.youtube.com/html5
It should tell you if you are already in the trial or not. if you are, you should find you can opt out. See if it improves then..

Occasionaly i having similar experience on my working laptop with windows 7 and on my iMac at home...

I guess it is noting related to computers but actualy to YouTube.

Thanks guys for your replies!
Ive now opted out of the HTML5 trial, and things seem to run smoother.
Ill evaluate for a while and see what happens, but it seems to be the solution :)
Thanks again!

Opting out of HTML5 was a life saver -better than sliced bread! Thanks:D
