I tend to listen to some background white noise using YouTube for me to focus on my work and other stuff but when I press the home button to work on other apps like the iOS calendar app and Mail app to check my emails the YouTube would stop. This is very annoying and I think this is by design to save batteries.
Is there a way to continue playing YouTube while opening other apps?

As I recall Google has changed that so that it's not doable anymore. You have to either pay for YouTube Red which would allow for that, or potbelly use some third party YouTube app that would support that (I think there are some paid ones, and perhaps a free one too).

Try Vimate. Used to use Tubex but the background audio was taken away. Vimate is free and works great.

The YouTube app sucks (and so does YouTube itself) but you can use youtube.com (+ Adguard to block Ads) and it will keep the audio in the background even if you quit Safari or browse another tab (use Control Centre to resume playback).

I can browse in another Safari tab or window, that's not a problem, but suppose I need to check my emails in the Mail app, I need to press the Home button and when I do press the Home button, the YouTube (in Safar) stops.

Have you tried what was suggested in an earlier reply about using Control Center to resume playback after you leave Safari?

Yep, that worked. But I thought it would be all automatic without manual playback...
But no worries, Its all good now. Thanks to all.
