OK. So everyones excited with the release of the Iphone. So was I.
We all already know (wish I knew BEFORE I bought it) that the battery is horrible.
Im one step from sending back my phone and waiting for something like the Samsung or RiM Blackberrys Bold to be release next month.

Can someone tell me if it is normal to experience crappy video playback with the iPhone? I've visited a few apple.com trailer sites and all the trailers play very choppy. I also see no options for video on my phone. Is this normal? I viewed Batman and Hellboy for examples and the landscape mode came on, only to show a very distorted blocky picture.

Please forgive me ranting, but I am thoroughly disgusted with the iPhone between lack of features (text times), battery life (minimal use, settings turned off on most options and im getting maybe a half a days battery life out of the phone) and now this.

Quicktime sucks. Noone but Apple uses it. Yet it is our only option for videos (unless you dare jailbreak or unlock - even then will it allow you to do anything?).

So again, is video playback very bad, or is it an issue with mine. I've already contacted my provider, they told me to contact apple for that issue. The battery - they could help me with, if they ship me a new phone, and then test mine (AND charge me if it is OK). I hung up on them.

If this is whats to expect with the phone, im on my way back to return it. Please - any suggestions would be VERY helpful. And again, forgive my ranting and confusing typing, but I am so pissed off with this phone.

The iPhone works best with MP4 video, and I would guess most QT movies that you see now are encoded with MP4. It is becoming the the standard for just about all video for the web and even working its way into Sat and Cable TV and BluRay discs.

If you're viewing the video over Edge or even 3g or WiFi, the quality will suffer. The sites that deliver it detect the connection speed and play a lower bandwidth video which will stream according to your connection.

However, a downloaded video and transferred to your phone should look great. If you are talking about streaming video, try downloading a few of the free clips of TV episodes from iTunes and see how that works.

This sounds like connection-speed problems, not video problems. Have you loaded any videos into the iPod part of the phone? How do they work? Get a free video podcast and try that out.

Quicktime sucks. Noone but Apple uses it.

i use quicktime for everything. if quicktime won't play it i use the VLC player though.

Well, I doubt he means "no one" literally.

Personally, I avoid it whenever I can.

Saying "no one uses quicktime" is hyperbole, which is what you are thinking of.

But he said that "no one but Apple" uses quicktime which sounds a lot more detailed. That's like the difference between saying "I could eat a horse" (an obvious exaggeration) and "I could eat 2 steaks." (Maybe that's an exaggeration...who knows?)

BTW I get a 2 days from my phone.

Take off charger, use day one, use day 2, put on charger all night, repeat.

I can go 3 days, just depends how much I've used the phone. I generally dont risk it and just charge every other day.

Another note: I know that Li-Ion batteries aren't supposed to need it, but I'm a fan of fully killing a device and fully recharging at least 3-5 cycles when I first get it. Never had battery issues with any of my phones.

I have a few avis that I would like to transfer to my iphone yet Itunes isnt recognizing any of them. Do I need to convert a video file [avi/mpg/wmv] to quicktime first? I also must laugh each time I discuss using a video on my phone that only recognizes quicktime. Quicktime video quality is nothing next to an .avi.
