I tried looking around for reviews on the new Zagg Curve Elite screen protector but did not find any, so I figured I would post my own.
I will start off by saying that Zagg did not provide this to me. I purchased it with my own money, and even paid to have it shipped up to Canada (not cheap). I have been searching for the perfect screen protector for my Apple Watch since the series 0 and have never been very happy with them.
I have tried the wet apply protectors (Ghost amor, Spigen etc) and while they are initially great, I always found they peel off and get dust under the edges. I tried the generic glass protectors (with and without the black borders), and found they either didn't adhere properly, or blocked part of the screen. The screen protector I had the most luck with was the Belkin ScreenForce InvisiGlass. However the fact that it just covered the screen portion of the watch made swiping over the edge uncomfortable and left the sides of my watch unprotected.
When I saw Zagg had released their new Curve Elite for the Apple Watch, I was optimistic.
Installation:
While Zagg tries to make this easy with what they include in the box, I can easily say this was the most difficult screen protector installation I have ever done. They give you an alignment tool which helps put the protector on perfectly. The challenging part is removing the bubbles. I had 4 very large bubbles on all 4 corners of the screen that no matter how hard I pressed or rubbed, they would not come out. I let the protector sit overnight with no change. I followed their instructions to lift the edge of the protector and push the bubble out to the edge. This helped eliminate 2 of the 4 bubbles. The last two took the longest to remove and required a lot of pushing and pressing the very edge of the protector. Finally after about 30 minutes of working the bubbles out, I had a perfect install.
Pros:
The screen sensitivity is fantastic. Feels no different then using the watch without a screen protector.
The curved glass makes swiping on the watch seamless and smooth. The glass is truly edge to edge and protects the entire face of the watch. The watch looks great and most of the time you can't even tell there is a screen protector on it. The adhesive is extremely strong (much stronger then other protectors I have tried), so I don't see it coming off anytime soon.
Cons:
The installation. Other then that, there is not a lot to complain about. The adhesive, like most protectors, appears to be only under the screen portion of the watch. The edge of the watch face is covered with a black/silver metallic boarder that matches my space grey watch perfectly. There is a small gap under the boarder, so I imagine over time some dirt and dust will accumulate underneath (like most 3D protectors for the iPhones). The other con is the price, $39.99 at retail price is extreme for a tiny piece of glass.
That being said, this is the best screen protector I have tried since the launch of the Apple Watch series 0. Nothing else quite compares and I know it will be staying on my watch indefinitely as my search for the perfect screen protector is finally finished.
