I'm probably beating a dead horse with this post but does anyone know when in God's name Pixologic plans on releasing ZBrush 3.1 for the mac OS? Us mac users are so far behind at this point its ridiculous! It's almost an unfair advantage. Why should I feel the need to own/buy a PC just so I can enjoy the latest updates of ZBrush? It's crap.

I want to start learning Zbrush now but who wants to learn on version 2 when it seems like it's been an eternity since 3 has been out for the PC users?

Is there any light on this?

You're right, it is taking forever and a day for the update to arrive. I am guessing we probably wont see an update. I say this because even on their website they inform Mac customers that they can use bootcamp to run zbrush, thus fixing the problem with the mac version

It's not so much the lack of a Mac version but Pixologics lack of communication that really sucks.

An honest regular update, even if it's bad news, would be much better received than a seemingly never ending silence on the issue.

There was a thread on this at Zcentral,it got really heavy at times so Aurick closed it.However to me {after following this thread closely for a while} that it was almost ready for release for ver 3,they then asked for Mac beta users and
everything ground to a halt.

I am thinking they decided to add Zmapper and its implementation is being a pain in the butt {they were originally not going to include it} Or the switch to cocoa has played some part.I am also sure they would love everyone using bootcamp mind you.

Apparently we are very close, its coming in the next few weeks and i think is in final beta testing at the moment, Its been a long wait and each day i look more and more into modo, very mac friendly and moving very fast

Man if that's true about it coming out soon I'll be happy but I see what everyone means about running it on boot camp. To me though, that's kind of ****** don't you think? Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest machines that run dual OS's ya know? I run on a powermac G5 with Tiger at the moment so....eventually I'll get Leopard but for now I'm happy with what I have.

Thats as much as i know, when i email them i just get the soon answer, and that ill be notified, I dont feel in the position to complain as it will be a free upgrade :) at least we know we are on the home stretch now.

I don't see what's apparent about it. They've been feeding us the same "soon" garbage for months. They did it with 2, they're doing it with 3. They claimed they were releasing within two weeks of Feb yet they hadn't started BETA TESTING. So they are out and out lying to us.

They just need to say, "we are testing this, having problems with that.." and that would keep us quiet. We don't need a date, we just need an UPDATE. Those at pixologic are good at programming, and nothing else it seems. I wonder if they talk to humans outside of forums.

VERY UNPROFESSIONAL, you don't keep your paying customers in the dark.

As far as MODO is concerned, it's not really the same as Zbrush, though they have been implementing a very basic painting & sculpting mode. It doesn't work well, certainly no where near the level of ZBrush.

But I'd recommend getting MODO anyway, it's probably the easiest to use modeler and it has one of the best renderers. Right now I model in MODO, paint/ sculpt in Zbrush, then render in Modo. Works very well!
