Greetings everyone,

My name is Greg and I am the developer of Zing. It is my first macOS app.

My wife, who is a professional photographer (she is mentioned in the testimonials section of www.zing-app.com if you are curious about her work), is the reason I built it. If you’re interested in that story I wrote a small blurb about it here.

I’d love to get some feedback about it. It’s a free download and you can try all of the functionality with the default branding assets that ship with it.

Thank you for your time, and I hope you like it.

Best regards,

— Greg

Thank you for the feedback!

It's $24.99 for 6 months, which is about $4 a month.
If paying $4 for a tool that frees enough of your time for you to bring in hundreds of $$ in additional income doesn't seem like a good investment, then perhaps you are not in the target market for this tool (which is ok - it's not a tool for everyone: it's targeted at professional photographers who do make income with photography).

If the tool doesn't free up a half hour of your time every month, then it makes no sense for you to buy it.

Are you a professional photographer?

I am a part time professional, it is not my only job. To be honest, I wouldn't even mind paying 50$ as a one time, but the subscription model is criminal, for a tool which I believe 80%, can be achieved in a camera bag photo or a Lightroom as part of the package. Yes, there isn't a single tool that does all of this, but to be honest, I would rather spend this much money on an editing tool, rather than a watermark tool. But thats just my opinion, maybe you're doing well with this model.

In your first post you claim I am engaged in robbery, and in the second one you say it's criminal. Perhaps we have different dictionaries, but as far as I know I am not taking your money without your consent or coercing you into buying this app. It's a free market and you are free to not buy this tool if you feel it is not worth your money, but calling me a criminal is not particularly conducive to having a productive discussion about the tool.

The tool does 3 things that no other tool does:
- automatic detection of the best spot for your logo
- automatic selection of the logo for the best visual
- randomization of watermark to prevent erasure attacks (even stock photo sites are vulnerable)
If you know of another tool that does it, I'd love to hear about it.

Can you combine a bunch of tools to get to the same result? Maybe, but I doubt it: I've looked into it and didn't find a way to do something equivalent, whether it be a Photoshop action or a Lightroom script. Clearly people aren't doing it, and there is a reason for it: it's not that trivial to get right.

I'm not the photographer btw, but my wife is. I don't know if you read the story I wrote about it here.

Pricing is always a hot topic.

Frankly I was hoping for feedback about the functionality, user interface, etc... Have you actually tried the app?

I dont know if you have dealt with other pricing of products, the words robbery and criminal are oft used when the prices are disproportionate to the tool's use. They are not intended to accuse, rather to exaggerate the emotion. However, if you are offended by it, I do apologise, the intent was to dramatise. I only spoke of the subscription model being criminal, and it was not a reference to you.

Of course, I used the tool, using the default logos that it generated, but for an actual try out with my logos, I need to purchase at least a week's use, which I found is not appropriate to me.

The tool definitely has its benefits, I am only against the subscription model that is presented, as against buying the tool. For instance, for me, it makes no monetary sense, since I only run a part time photography unit, as time permits.

If the model is working out for you, good for you!

No problem. Thanks for clarifying.

Fair enough.
But remember if it was a $50 purchase (rather than subscription), you would need to pay $50 to try out with your logos, instead of $2. You just said $2 is not appropriate, so $50 would have been grossly out of the question too. I can't even imagine what the feedback would have been then.

At any rate, you've made your point and I respect it.

Would you mind telling me how the software performed on your photos (even with the default logos)?
Did it seem to pick the best logo & location most of the time?
Did the app crash or become unresponsive at any time?
Was the app snappy?
Were the files processed quickly?

Cheers!
