Should I be worried about hiking the narrows without a guide with my camera gear. Any persuasions I should take? Any must get shots? Just looking for some advice

Take at least one, if not a pair, of good carbon hiking sticks. Some folks will use their tripods as walking sticks. At REI and other stores you can get water shoes that will minimize slipping on wet rocks. Be prepared for the water being cold, like most mountain streams. Have a fast lens, polarizer filter, a ND or VND depending on how much light is in the canyon, and how much you like to smooth out the water.
If you will doing several of the major photo opps in the Southwest, consider getting the 3 volume set of paperbacks named Photographing the Southwest by Laurent Martres. The 3 volumes start in Las Vegas and go through Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. The books should be required reading for anyone with a camera headed to the Southwest.

If you're going out hiking, I think you would want to use common sense.
If you're planning an all day hike, then you want to make sure you have plenty of water to drink so you stay hydrated. You probably want to bring food as well, so you can also eat. I would be sure to tell friends and family where you will be in case you god forbid injury yourself and you can't get help.
I'm sure there are plenty of other things that I missed that others can touch on.

The narrows are breathtaking (as well as the rest of the park). Check on the Virgin River's water level - could be high if you are going this spring as well as cold. When I went in October we rented wet suits and river shoes. You might want to purchase a dry bag for some of your camera gear. First time I went I inflamed my knees by the constant pushing of my legs against the water. Try to make normal steps as much as possible instead of gliding your legs against the water.
