im with verizon right now, if i jailbreak my iphone will i still be with verizon, or will i be disconnected and have to go in and have them reconnect me to there service.in other words if i jailbreak my phone will everything stay the same except if i wanted to go with another carrier i could,
 
Jailbreaking does not unlock your phone to use with a different carrier.

Ziphone is a very, old outdated hack that only worked on original iPhones

Ya, um, not sure where you pulled ZiPhone from, but besides being from 1954 (circa), it also had a nasty habit of changing your bootloader without your permission. In fairness, he was one of the pioneers of the "easy" jailbreak, and actually had his moments (including being paranoid that Cupertino was "watching" him), but in the end I think he now works at Burger King (where at least you can have what he makes "your way").

Jailbreaking does many things, but this thread illustrates why it never has acheived mainstream support (WAY too much misinformation out there...).

It also doesn't do your laundry, or teleport you to space.

seems that Absinthe is a good one and free. then how do you unlock your phone to be able to use it with another carrier. i have a at&t phone and now want to switch to verizon and use the same phone. i thought that what you did was jailbreak it to unlock it.

checked and it seems that at&t will unlock my phone to go with another carrier, dont think they charge for it.

Verizon and at&t iphones can not be switched. you're going to have to buy a new one from Verizon
 
isnt that the purpose of unlocking it, so then it could be used with any carrier. i know i cant go into verizon with a at&t phone and have them activate it, unless its unlocked. unless im missing something here.
 
Jailbreak tool depends on firmware
Since you never advised what phone/firmware you have, we cannot advise what jailbreak tool to use.
But you still will not be able to switch carriers

1st off what iPhone do you have.
2nd Jailbreak does NOT equal unlock. 2 separate things.

In short you cannot use it on verizon.
If it's unlocked it can be used only on other gsm carriers.
But since you don't want to take no for an answer good luck using it on verizon:D
 
sorry about that. its a iphone 5c with the latest firmware. IOS 7.1, and what i meant was to unlockit so i coulduse it on another carrier, but from some of the sites i went to it stated that the phone would have to jailbreak before i could use the unlock app. and if i cant use it on verizon then i want to know for what reason, or should i say, im going to find out why verizon would be the only one that a unlocked phone cant be use on.

that seemed to be simple = Verizon and Sprint use CDMA networks.

if you bought a GSM phone, you can't use it on a CDMA network. Unlocked CDMA phones can be used with GSM networks (assuming the radios are compatible with that GSM network) as long as there's a SIM card slot

CDMA phones are activated on verizon/sprint/etc's end. GSM phones get activated with a SIM card

jailbreaking is different from unlocking; they are not the same thing
 
then ill go to bestbuy and get there deal on there new 5s and verizon. but now im going to find out how verizon and at&t differ in the way on the iphones, what have they done to the iphones to make them only work on certain carriers, after all i can get a 5s from verizon and a 5s from at&t, so there must be something different in the phone itself. oh well i figure it out. the info is out there, the differences between the two.

verizon is on a CDMA based network
at&t is on a GSM based network

the way how at&t and verizon's phones are activated differ

Thats just the start. CDMA/GSM (and LTE for that matter) differ from carrier to carrier depending on which block of spectrum they have from the FCC. They could both be CDMA - say throw US Cellular or some other small carrier in there and they use yet another frequency. It all depends on the radio inside the phone and the spectrum allocated to the carrier.
