Last night I followed the instructions at http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=655 to unlock my phone. Sure enough in less than 5 minutes I had an iPhone that was working with a non-iPhone O2 SIM but there were a few funnies.

1. The home screen showed Installer but no other apps even though going into the uninstall section of Installer showed lots of applications installed.

2. When I put my original SIM back in Youtube didn't work and neither did Visual Voicemail.

Any tips?

I just jailbroke my phone with that, but I had the same problem with your first problem. Not only were there about 10 apps installed, I got the main script execution error. So, what I did was put my phone into recovery mode, restored, then ran the jailbreak again, and it worked. It might not be as easy for you being on an unlocked phone, but thats how I did it...
