Ziphone refurbish after JB, safe to upgrade new fimware?

if i clicked on the refurbish button in ZIphone, to re-lock my iphone after a JB, and restored it, is it safe to upgrade new released firmware without worrying that it will get bricked?

im just wondering as ive read alot about how ZIphone permanantly changes the 'bootloader' or something,

Hope someone can help please

ZiPhone will have downgraded your bootloader to 3.9 from the version 4.6 it came with.

This means that Apple will not touch your phone under warranty even if your with O2 officially now. There is NO way to go back to 4.6 currently.

Having said that all original iPhones came with 3.9 so as long as everything else is working perfectly now you can upgrade to 1.1.4 without any issues.

I suggest you download and use iLiberty+ for jailbreaking and unlocking from now on! check my thread about it - but whatever you do you are now stuck on bootloader 3.9 with a valid apple warranty!
 
Ok thanks for that, so if I did do a refurbish, and restore would I be safe to upgrade to any future firmware upgrade without bricking my iPhone or does the bootloader affect the firmware?

Also, if I did a refurbish and restore, could I re-JB using ilibertyx?

You don't need to relock your phone to upgrade because everytime you upgrade the phone is relocked automatically anyway and you always lose your jailbreak.

You can upgrade straight from an already hacked and unlocked phone.

You can jailbreak and unlock from iLiberty no problem it doesn't matter what you used to jailbreak or unlock before because that refurbish and a standard upgrade will reset everything else.

Because the original iPhones have the 3.9 bootloader (ie american phones) it is not a problem upgrading as the different bootloader is just extra security on european phones to stop unlocking! (not very good security lol) so you can upgrade without any worries to 1.1.4.

TWO important steps:
It is always a good idea to restore to fresh and set up the iPhone as NEW as if you restore from a backup all your old jailbreak files will be put back on the phone which can make it stop working until you restore it again.

So I advise you to make sure its a clean phone after restoring - set it up as a new phone and then run iLiberty.

You will lose anything not syncable in iTunes but it is the safest way to go.
 
so what you guys are saying is that when you unlock a 4.6 bootloader iphone, even though it downgrades the bootloader to 3.9 its safe from bricking. I have att i just want to unlock the iphone to use in europe. So when 2.0 comes i dont want to in fear that i cant upgrade because it somehow know that i downgraded the bootlader or w/e
 
Phew! Thanks guys I was paniking a little there, so basically the bootloader doesn't really matter that much I was just old security that was bypassed from hackers a long time ago. As soon as I get in from work tomorrow I'm restoring, and using ilibertyx I think. Good to know aswell that I can re-lock and upgrade firmware whenever it comes out as and when rather than waiting to see if its safe.

My main concern was if I relocked my phone but they could still brick my phone with new firmware because of the bootloader

iLiberty downgrades the bootloader to 3.9 with fakeblanks - what that means is that you can upgrade it back to the original 4.6 bootloader should you ever need to return it to Apple for any reason to be fixed.

ZiPhone downgrades the bootloader to 3.9 original which is NOT upgradable. So if you have a new phone you will mess up your warranty using it.

But as I said from June until Novemeber EVERY iPhone had the 3.9 bootloader so it will NEVER be messed up by an update from Apple.

If Apple wanted to upgrade your bootloaders on old phones I am sure they could be its unlikely.

But your safe for all upgrades!

Actually iLiberty does NOT downgrade the bootloader what-so-ever when you do a simple jailbreak. So there is no reason to have to upgrade it. Check for yourself. You will still be at 4.6. Now if you want to UNLOCK using iPlus or iLiberty+ then you are correct it uses 3.9fb.
 
I assumed we were talking about an UNLOCK - hence why I mentioned it.

Of course if you just Jailbreak it won't touch the bootloader.
 
Basically, the main thing I wanted to be sure of was if I did an iTunes restore and set up my phone as a new phone without being jailbroken, and wanted to upgrade to future versions on firmware as they are released without having to check that its safe, would I be safe to do so or would they be able to tell it was once jailbroken, even though I removed the jailbrake ?

I saw that you said you were at 3.9 which means you more than likely downgraded when you used Ziphone to do your jailbreak. And that is not reversable. That's why I avoided Ziphone and used iLiberty. To answer your question, you should be fine to upgrade to the latest firmware when it is released. People talk about the bootloader thing a lot because some say in the future if you are stuck at a downgraded BL that Apple may come up with a may to make it so you can't do the update.
