For a while I used essentially my 2013 Retina Macbook Pro i5 (dual core) - 8Gb with Windows - Bootcamp.

And everything was working well with Zoom and Skype.

I'm now returning again to MacOS....and I have Catalina working on this Macbook Pro.

The machine is working well and is fast enough with multiple windows opened (browsing the Internet, word, excel, pdfs, images, etc).

But when using Zoom or Skype, and also some Youtube videos, for many times the CPU has a peak for several seconds and the image freezes, and the sound is listened with many breaks, with messages saying the Internet is slow (what is not, because using an old Pentiuam Dual Core Duo with Windows, everything runs well). Everything start becoming very slow. Sometimes i need to reebot the MBP...starts again well, but for a short time...

Do not know what to do more to solve the problem...

Anyone has the same problem?

Thanks
Duarte S.

Turning off ‘HD video’ in Zoom settings. If that doesn't work try Turbo Boost Switcher (just Google).

I've been on Zoom most of the day on my Catalina powered MBP 2018, and it's been rock solid both on and off VPN. Even our current meeting with 100 folk is going well...

For your info I found the problem some days after (after run Diagnostics): the Macbook fan was not working.... so the kernal_task process was taking all the processor when Zoom or Skype were running...
