Just purchased this phone online from Lightake in China ($290 total). I hope to get it in a couple weeks. Any MR members in Asia familiar with Zopo? I watched some videos online and the phone looks very nice.

I watched a few youtube videos...the thing lags in Temple Run...

I saw a few vids with Temple Run. No lag. Show me which one you are referring to.

Starting to question if there will be issues getting this thing through customs.

Counterfeit brand, decent for the price. Might have to do some hackery to get the play store on it. Doubt it is a Google certified device.

I think it comes with the Play Store on it. I watched two videos, one from a person in Germany, the other an Italian. I saw the Play Store on both devices. I'm fluent in Italian and he didn't mention anything about needing to alter anything.

Judging by the description, it already comes with Google play.

I see that they describe it coming with the play store. However I am still skeptical. I work a job where a lot of cheap knock off Android devices (mostly chinese) come across my desk. They either have very ancient versions of the google store (Android Market) that half ass work or knock off 3rd party chinese stores that are just called "Play Store". Then there is a chance they just installed a non official Play Store as a system app. Even then it seems to not function 100% but does work decently. Not saying this thing wont ship but chances are it is one of the above as the only way to get official Gapps on your device is to get it certified by Google. Let me know when you get your hands on it.

Edit: Just FYI Zopo isn't even listed on their supported devices pages. So it will be an unofficial version that may or may not work 100%

Just buy a used galaxy nexus or wait for the play store to restock nexus 4's. Buying a chinese knockoff phone is such a waste.

Well it has some decent specs and it does look exactly like the S3.

but its still a knockoff and paying close to 300 for a knockoff brand is ridiculous. Why does it have a physical button and use soft keys. Details like this where the builds of android are so poor are so common on knockoff devices. Most of them don't even have functional hardware acceleration which seems to be the case with this one which would explain the lag.

The gpu is the sgx531. Thats slower than the gpu in the original iphone 4 (sgx535). I really hope the op cancels the order. Paying 300 for this is theft of your money.

All I can tell you is that I see a Play Store icon on all the reviews I've seen from customers in Europe. It appears to function normally. I'll let you know how it functions once I get the phone. Probably won't be until the end of the month.

Zopo is considered a second tier Chinese company. They are very new. Perhaps adding a touch more credibility they have formed a partnership with Jolla to make devices featuring the Starfish OS in the future.

What do you mean exactly by functional hardware acceleration? And what lag are you referring to? I've watched several vids of games played on this model and saw no lag. I did look up the GPU on YouTube and it appears to not handle 3D games well but most games that aren't as intensive should be just fine. Do you think that running 4.1.2 on this GPU is the issue?

If it doesn't have the proper hardware acceleration drivers working, then YouTube and Chrome would have issues - Like they wouldn't work.

I think the biggest thing that most people warn against these knockoffs is that they're using rejected parts. So even though the screen is nice, there might be an issue with like the display having bad pixels, etc.

YouTube works on the videos of this phone that I've seen.

Is it a given that they are using rejected parts? I know this is a risky purchase. Zopo appears to be a second tier company versus a super cheap/shady one. But I can't say for sure.

I am just confused by the fact that you are spending 300 dollars on a noname brand. Why not find a first generation used note or spend a little more and find a used note II.

I hate amoled screens.

The note II is non pentile. RGB just like the lcd screens.

It's an amoled screen. I've seen it in person many times. I'm not a fan.

(Update: I've cancelled my order. Thanks for the heads up.)
