Ok, I'm a relatively new convert to the Mac world. This week I saw a Zune for the first time as they only recently came to Canada. Wow, that thing is ugly!!!!
It is however indicative of what ails Microsoft. Even when they have a market leader to copy, or even better exceed, they come up with something that looks like it was designed by committee in Russia. I flicked through the menu choices a bit just to see what it looked like but I was already clearly underwhelmed.
What Microsoft has always lacked, but is now coming home to roost is innovation. Vista copies a lot of what OSX has, and the Zune is uniquely bad on its own. How can a company like that spend billions on a product and come up with something so bad? That goes for Vista and the Zune. Not only a lack of innovation, but certainly a lack of accountability. There didn't seem to be one person strong enough to state out loud at the Zune product meetings "Hey, this is a piece of crap" Steve Jobs gets a lot of flack for telling employees just that, but it obviously works. Who is the person at Microsoft that can say those words. I recently saw an article where Bill Gates expresses his frustration at trying to download a MS product.
Thats ok though, I'm happy with my Apple purchases, and don't ever intend on going back. I would be worried if I was a MSFT shareholder.
