I was cleaning up the iMac (2017 27" 1 TB Fusion drive running Sierra) and somehow barfed the Fusion drive. I erased the partition (Macintosh HD). I tried to repartition the drive as 2 partitions and got never-ending beachball and had to shut down machine to get out.
Now the Fusion drive shows...
Hi, I am planning on replacing my 1TB Fusion Drive with a 2.5" internal 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. After the installation I plan to use the 32GB SSD portion as a scratch disk.
Do I need to 'unfuse' my Fusion Drive before removing the HDD?
I thought I would come to this thread to ask. I purchased a new 2017 iMac, spec wise, it has 3.5GHz Intel core i5 CPU, Radeon Pro 575, 8GB RAM and 1TB fusion drive, so it's the mid configuration out of three available stock options. I've noticed this issue on my outgoing late 2015 iMac with...
Hi all
My late 27" Late 2013 imac (i5 - 8gb ram) - is insanely slow - I think it's the 1gb fusion drive:
Esp. things like opening mails, or just having it open the emoj-window takes ages - so no smiies :D
Anyways, I'm considering my options here:
1) I could throw in more ram, which is...
My computer won’t convert from HFS+ to APFS. My HFS+ disk is a Fusion Drive and encrypted.
I’m not sure but I was probably not presented with a conversion option during the installation process.
I then tried to convert from the recovery screen and the disk management utility in the recovery mode...
So, after going back and forth on waiting for the iMac Pro or long-prophesied Mac Pro, I've decided I'll probably get a 2017 iMac and fill it up to the gills with (third party) RAM to use as my next Logic Pro-focused machine. What I'm still on the fence about is how to approach the HD...
Hey guys,
I am currently running a iMac 2014 with a 1TB Fusion drive. Now what annoys me is that each time I log into the iMac (I usually always put it to sleep when not in use), I have to wait until the fusion drive (the HDD part) spins up so that I can use the keyboard and type in my password...
UPDATE:
So I now have the SSD (Crucial MX300), but I can't get it to boot from / install OSX onto that drive. I open Recovery Mode, but only my standard HDD shows up as an option. The SSD appears in Disk Utility, so it's definitely 'there', it's just not registering as an option to install OSX...
Hey guys, I currently am running a Mac Pro 4,1>5,1 with the dual quad core Xeons @ 2.26 ghz. I am running 3 plain 7200 RPM drives (One for Mac OS X, one for backups, and other for bootcamp) and i was looking to upgrade my Mac OS X one. I would like a SSD, but I have an excess of data that means...
I have a late 2013 21.5 iMac and using 1TB Fusion drive option.
I want to swap the HDD to SSD lately and I did some research so I planned to do below
1. Clone everything by Carbon Copy Cloner
2. Remove boot camp.
3. reboot to recovery mode. open terminal, split fusion drive
(Step here...
Some of you may find this tidbit interesting..
I was in an Apple store today and noticed that the 27" iMacs were running particularly slow (top end configuration with 2TB Fusion Drive).
Opened Disk Utility and it turns out the fusion drive was un-linked and that the entire system was running...
I've been surprised with the lastest speed test done on my IMAC 5k late 2015 1Tb Fusion Drive (24gb) done a Blackmagic (version 3.0). I used to get around 350 Mb/s write and 850 Mb/read, but setting the target to icloud drive and stress of 1Gb I've got up to 1550 Mb/read and 330 Mb/write. Does...
Hi, all.
Planning to upgrade my HDD capacity by getting new SSD and HDD which I want it to be fusioned.
I currently have 256GB SSD and 2TB HDD fusion and will get new 512GB SSD and 4TB HDD.
I am going to use that 256GB SSD to my old iMac to speed up. so my question is
Do I need de fusion SSD...
Just submitted this feedback to Apple:
"
I just lost my System drive in my MP3,1.
I had Fusion drive made from 128GB OWC ssd and 1TB hdd.
Ssd died.
First thing that comes to mind is, can I recover the data I was working after last timeMachine backup?
Since ssd's are usually small and hdd's can...
Hi guys
So initially, I installed a Windows 10 Bootcamp on my 27inch 2014 iMac with a 1TB Fusion Drive. I went to install Sierra and it said the harddisk was broken and needed to be fixed. From here, tried everything to fix it within my humble means. I got it all fixed by a computer repair...
Hello!
A little bit of back-story :
I've been using a fusion drive for some time on my 2011 13 inch macbook pro and the main drive cable has failed on me two times. I found out that I can boot up my mac as usual if I put the non working hard drive in an enclosure and hook it up via usb. As you...
I have a BTO iMac 27" from late 2013. A few months ago I realised that it would always seem to crash and restart itself whenever I put it to sleep for periods longer than a few hours (I have since been told that this behaviour is inherent to a failing hard drive). And then two weeks ago, when I...
I'm trying to work out the best way to configure my drives so that I get the most speed out of them.
My Samsung 850 EVO 500GB contains macOS 10.12 and all my applications with little User data, and is attached to an OWC Accelsior S 2.5" PCI4 card giving me SATA-III speed (bootable). My main...
The original 1TB hard drive that came with my 2012 Mac mini i7 crashed. I am considering replacing crashed drive with a 500 GB Samsung EVO SSD. I have a spare 1TB HD and was thinking to create a fusion drive with the two drives, is this a good idea or should keep the two drives separate ...
