Windows 10 is rough, I'm kind of regretting this.

Still running my 2017 MacBook Pro with Monterey, but sadly my 2012 Mac Mini died on me this past February. Which was my main desktop for work. But it was getting long in the tooth anyway and I need to replace it. For years I've been thinking about just building another PC. I used to build them...

    Upgrade or fresh install

Hi, From one version of macOS to another I always did a fresh install. However, on the iPhone is always made upgrades and everything always works fine. The question I ask is when migrating from macOS Sonoma to macOS Sequoia whether it is worth doing a fresh install or booting using the...

Seriously? 8GB used to be enough.. it's becoming less and less the case

That doesn't even add up near to 8GB :D Meanwhile, Apple still sells base models just shy off a thousand with 8GB equipped. I gotta say, owning this laptop since new it's probably frozen on me less than 10 times. So overall great stability.. however messages like these worry me for the future.

Help: iMac Pro 2017 won't boot

UPD: I managed to solve the problem by creating a new volume (partition) on my internal drive where I installed the new macOS via recovery mode and was able to get into the system. Then moved all data/files to the new volume and deleted the old one. Everything is working now. Looks like the...

Apple is heading for a decline.

The past 12 months really hasn’t been kind to Apple. The lawsuits, the steps back in their products and ecosystem as a result, one negative headline after another, struggling stocks. But on top of all that, Apple isn’t feeling exciting anymore. Now before you start keyboard mashing to say how...

    Simple Finder alternatives and options

For those of us who remember “Simple Finder” in Mac OS 8, and on through ~10.15. You could set a user account to login directly to Simple Finder where the desktop experience was greatly simplified, and you were presented with a screen of apps (similar to an iPad app screen) that you had...

    S.O.S USB booteable macOS Sierra

Good night, I've been trying for days to create a bootable USB with macOS Sierra and get it to work. I've tried downloading it from the official Apple website and from the Mist app for computers with a silicon processor, but I still haven't been able to create it using either the Terminal (sudo...

Audio Issues with VLC and Netflix (Safari) on MBP 16

Hi everyone, I have a MacBook Pro 16" with the M3 Max processor, and I've noticed a strange issue with the audio. Some movies I watch using VLC are very quiet, even though I’ve set the mode to stereo. I’m also experiencing a similar issue with Netflix when using Safari, where the sound is much...

Hi! Xecrets Ez is an easy-to use software for local file encryption. In addition to macOS it also supports Windows and Linux. It's also 100% compatible with the well-known AxCrypt software, in fact it uses the same open source GPL code. Check out https://www.axantum.com/ for downloads...

Is it possible to collapse a window like in OS 9?

In the olden days, double clicking on the top bar of the window would collapse the window in to the top bar. I think this might have been referred to as Window Shade? I'm not sure if I'm just not able to find this feature in the new (and dysfunctional) System Settings or if it's just not a...

Studio never really "sleeps", nor did Mini... blocking internet access overnight is the way, I guess

One thing that really winds me up about my previous Mini and current M1 Studio Base Max: both never really go to sleep. This remains true, even with Bluetooth disabled (which is part of the problem, imo). Sure, I can get the display to turn off (after multiple attempts with some regularity) but...

    More coverage/discussion of MacOS updates?

There are so many articles and forum threads about iOS and Apple Watch software, but relatively few about bug, fixes, changes, improvements on MacOS releases, which seems especially odd now that there are two concurrent release "paths" for 15 and 15.1. I faithfully update, but don't get to...

Hello I would like to announce a container-like solution for macOS which doesn't require sip to be disabled.

I’m excited to share a project I’ve been working on called osxiec (osx isolated environment creator). While it’s not a full container solution, osxiec provides a way to isolate processes from the main system on macOS. Here are some key features: * Process isolation using groups and macOS...

LG Blu-ray writer BP50NB40 no longer works reliably in macOS on two different Macs.

Hey all, this is both a solution and question thread. I've had an LG BP50NB40. for the last several years, that has worked flawlessly on my 5K 27", late 2015 iMac. It has worked flawlessly with the main connector of the usb Y plug connected to one of the Mac's USB 3.0 ports. At the beginning...
