I'm attempting to make my web app work better on notch phones, and have been attempting to follow the advice everywhere and use the css env values, like the following one padding-left: env(safe-area-inset-left); along with viewport-fit=cover in the viewport meta.
Unfortunately, I don't have an...
Hello fellow Macrumors members.
I continue to see the same old argument regarding why the iPhone X's notch is terrible. The argument goes like this:
When you play video in "fullscreen" on the iPhone X, the notch cuts into the side of the video thus losing that portion of the video due to the...
I expect this has been covered before, but I'm constantly reminded when I see iphone design clones that my old Samsung Omnia i900 had a notch at the top of the screen years before the iphone did, and yet there doesn't seem to be a design infringement lawsuit taking place?
I just noticed this tonight, it was working fine earlier today. When you pull down from either one of the "ears" on my iPhone X, notification center AND control center do not seem to show up. It seems that the entire screen is working otherwise, but just not these two main functions/areas of the...
Now, leaving aside who did what 1st and who is copying who. As that argument will go around and around with no winners.
I think we can all agree the "Notch" concept, which gives users more screen space than they otherwise would have is here to stay.
Now, let me just say that, I think it would...
Reading rumours of how the 2018 iPad Pro might have a near bezel-less display "thanks" to the Face-ID technology, I really hope Apple doesn't put a notch on the display like they do on the iPhone X.
The notch was a mistake, an eye-sore, and screams laziness. A notch on the iPad Pro let alone...
Very hard to take a picture hence why I won't be supplying any,
but anyone notice any faint lines in the notch area, horizontal like, very very faint, best visible on a white background.
thanks in advance for any responds, the people here are a bit more mature about issues than the guys on...
One of the items I have kept an eye on is how are developers going to handle the notch. Personally, after looking at and comparing the “X”, I decided not to get one. Still, if this is the future of the iPhone, what are we going to experience as new apps roll out.
On that note, I happened...
I may have an unpopular point of view, but I don’t think there’s a single thing wrong with it from a design point. People are acting like they plopped it there to cut out the screen. When in all actuality they added screen. If we got the bezel all the way across like some vehemently argued for...
I see people complaining about the Notch on the iPhone X but would you have really preferred a whole top bezel like the Galaxy S8? Or are you saying you want no front facing cameras at all? (Say bye to all your selfies)
I would rather have the smaller notch than a top bezel. So I love the...
So let's cut to the chase: yes, Apple could have compensated for the Notch, either by hardware design or using software. But after years of slamming Samsung for copying from Apple's design, do you think Apple was going to walk into the crap storm Samsung would throw at them for copying their...
I love iPhone and have from day one but that notch and screen design is just awful! The annoying thing is, as bad as it is, other manufacturers will copy it.
No uniformity, it's just plain odd. It looks like a bad screen protector. Everything else is perfect but the two ears at the top suck!
Is it just me or does anyone else like the notch at the top of the screen where the FaceTime Camera, sensors etc reside? I think it gives the IPhone X a unique look. Also the alternative would be to have a straight bezel at the top which I think would be more ugly and you would also lose the...
EDIT: I've added a solution 4 below, by request, and have added it to the poll. I've also set the poll up so that users can change their answer, so if you like #4 better, feel free to change your vote. I'll continue to take requests, within reason, so comment below!
I've been trying to figure...
