Recently I finally managed to acquire my dreamed PMG5 Quad, I was aware of the leak problem that usually occurs, my computer seems NEVER to have leaked, but I don't want to start using it without first ensuring that this will not happen. I also know there was a second revision that looks like it...
I have a PowerMac G5 Quad
I install a pair of 2GB DDR2-800 Corsair XMS2 Ram in the right slot (mirrored centermost)
At first, I got 3 beep and the fan start to spin fast
After some re-seat and change ram module, I got the boot chime
But a few second after the chime, overtemp led bright up...
Earlier this week I booted up my G5 Quad to find only 12 of my 16GB Memory was showing up. I've had 16GB working without issue for 1-2 years now. DIMMs 4 & 5 were showing up empty despite that not being true. Haven't had to go fiddling inside for a long time so I'm surprised anything changed...
So I'm here to show off.
Having upgraded my G5 Quad to 16GB RAM and an Nvidia Quadro FX 4500, it was only matter of time before it got the SSD treatment. It had to be one that doesn't need TRIM, which poor old Leopard lacks. OWC offer a number of vintage compatible SSD's tailor made for old...
It surprises me (touch wood) how long Leopard’s version of Screen Sharing is lasting in terms of working well with increasingly distant versions of the MacOS.

So after 2/3 years of putting up with an unsightly '12' in my system profiler under memory, I finally got some cheap DDR2 DIMMs to bring me on up to 16GB.
For some reason when I first put them in it only detected 2 of 4. So swapping 4 x 1GB for 2 x 2GB was naturally not much of an upgrade. I...
Hello, sorry if this isn't the best forum section to ask, but I was uncertain where else it could be.
I have been considering getting a rather old PC graphics card known as ATI X1950XT (512Mb version, as opposed to 256Mb), and while people have successfully Mac-flashed the 256Mb version (likely...
'Cuz I'm about to buy one at a great price but the guy selling it doesn't know if it is an Early or Late 2005.
The machine has no GPU nor HDD, so he can't test it by himself. Is there any identifier on the case so that I can know? Maybe the serial number?
Thanks for reading. I'm topping it out...
With my main gear still down in Dublin while I'm up the country for the summer, I've taken the time to set my G5 Quad up in a comfy and appealing manned. With a warm room, big solid desk and the luxury of using genuine PPC tech I have no exuses to stay away from the DAW over the next few months...
Hello,
I'm thinking about buying a PowerMac G5 to replace my iMac G5 (no, I don't want something higher, I don't want to wait longer to have money to buy a Mac Pro, or take a IntelMini, no, it would be a PowerMac G5 or nothing, anyway, I will take it on a french site like craiglist, G5 are like...
