I have recently upgraded from Mavericks to Sierra. Before the upgrade I turned off TimeMachine.
Can I just turn it back on now or should I start over by erasing the drive and letting TimeMachine start fresh?
Dear Community,
I'm using an Apple iMac and I just purchased a Netgear Router (model R7800 - Nighthawk X4S AC2600) and I connected to it an external USB Harddisk to be used for Time Machine.
The setup was ok and the first back up started as expected. Unfortunately, after several hours from the...
Hey all,
I am a musician and content creator with years of video, photo and music content. Some of my Photos Libraries are as big as 450GB and I have multiple others that are around 200GB. I am looking to add a cloud based storage incase I do get a lightning strike or power surge or...
Hi,
With my old Mac Hard Drive plugged into my new mac as an external HD, is it possible to locate Time Machine Backups from the old hard drive? If so, where?
Thanks.
I treasure this community, and strive to not post regarding a topic I can learn about from FAQs and the like, but this remains vexing. Admire and am well-acquainted with Pondini.org and others, but believe confusion arises over ambiguity in the simplest of terms –– in my case, under just...
Hello,
I'm soon going on vacation and I'm planning to take an external hard drive, which contains my MacBook's Time Machine backup in it, but I won't take the MacBook itself with me. I will leave it back home so my brother (and business partner) can use it.
For the next couple of months I will...
Time Machine ran successfully today after updating to PB2 10.13 Beta (17A306f).
CCC has been running as well. Have not tried yet to boot from a clone backup yet to verify.
I accidentally unplugged my Time Machine backup hard drive today without ejecting it first :-/ It had successfully finished making a backup a couple of minutes before this happened and so I hope that this hasn’t corrupted the drive. I checked to see if I could retrieve files from my backups and...
Hey all,
I've been to the Genius Bar twice about this along with posting on the Apple discussion forums and haven't had any luck so far. Hopefully someone here might know something I can try.
I'm upgrading my hard drive. I have the new hard drive in a separate enclosure and the Time Machine...
The main hard drive for my iMac which is named as Macintosh HD is included in the "Exclude these items from backups" list in Time Machine. It's currently grayed out and I cannot remove it, therefore my backups aren't running.
This hypothetical has been wracking my brain since I recently migrated to iCloud Drive: all files, Desktop, Documents, App containers, etc
Lets say, hypothetically:
I back up my Mac on Monday with Time Machine
I work all week long, modifying and creating 100's of files, all stored in iCloud...
I am hoping someone can help me. I just upgraded to the 2017 imac from a time machine backup. Before doing so I had around 200 GB's of free space but now my new system is completely maxed @ 1 TB! The system storage shows 289 GB's being used and I do not know what for. I can identify all my other...
Hi folks,
I'm looking to replace my first-generation Time Capsule (circa 2008) with something new that supports 802.11ac. I'd like to keep the convenience of wireless Time Machine backups, but the most recent Time Capsule is really expensive (~$300) and likely to be discontinued soon.
Is there...
I recently restored a macOS installation from Time Machine. My backups excluded the Downloads folder and a few video folders with big files. I know those folders, obviously, since upon restoration they remain in the Time Machine settings, but I'm wondering if macOS keeps a log of the names of...
Hi everyone,
I've tried searching for solutions for this problem and I can't seem to find an answer, so am hoping that some of you on this forum can help me out:
I have a MBP (mid-2009) and have an external HD which I used for my TM when I had Mountain Lion. I backed up right before I upgraded...
Hello, you fine people of MacRumors.
I am way behind the times, running OS Lion 10.7.5 on a 17" Macbook Pro.
I need to upgrade my OS and my external hard drive is out of space. No problem, right? Just buy a new hard drive.
Unfortunately, all the drives in my local store are compatible with...
The issue is I have two older Time Capsules that I use for Time Machine backups on four Mac's. One is wired to the router by ethernet, and the other three are wireless. With the Time Capsules going bad, yet again, I am left with my FIOS Wireless router only. If I plug an external USB enclosure...
I've got Time Machine backing up my main drive but due to lack of storage space on it, I've had to move my Photos Library to one of the other internal drives on my Mac mini (180GB library).
Any way to set Time Machine to backup just the Photos Library file on that drive, rather than the other...
Hello, since I upgraded to macOS 10.12.4, Time Machine ceased to backup every hour, but only when
there is some activity on the machine.
Is that a bug or an unpublished feature?
;JOOP!
Hey all!
I have a faulty MacBook Pro from 2011 that was from a line of MacBooks that had issues with the graphics card.
The graphics card didn't fail on me until feb 2017, and Apple's warranty was up on Dec 31, 2016.
(I swear they make their products to last only until the next version comes...
