Been there, done that......still no shakey shakey icons!!!!

Are you guys sure that Microsoft didn't buy out Apple??????????

Have you tried to boot up the iPhone in restore mode by turning it off and pressing the home button while plugging into the computer?

1604 Fix!!!

Here's the fix (for 1604 error for sure)...

- Disconnect from the dock/USB cable...
- Close iTunes...
- If you have a "connect to icons" logo on your iPhone, hold down the top button until your screen goes black....
- Open iTunes...
- Connect your phone to the USB cable again and plug the cable into your Mac/PC...
- iTunes should say you must restore your iPhone...
- Hold down option button (Mac) or Shift button (PC) and single click "Restore" in iTunes...
- Navigate to the download (.ipsw) file for 1.1.3 on your Mac/PC...
- iTunes begins the restore (takes a while)...
- After an auto-restart of your iPhone from iTunes, you'll get the message saying: "A iPhone has previously been synced with this machine, would you like to restore from a backup?
- It lists your iPhone and the date/time of your previous sync...choose that option and let it fly...it takes quite a while...

This did it for me...then I simply synced (for calendar items, images, etc) and it worked perfectly.

I was very frustrated, but then this method got me to 1.1.3

Enjoy!

error during update

Not sure if this helps anyone, but the solution was simple for me.

After receiving the error code:

1) panic!
2) search for solution on internet
3) find this website
4) decide that deleting all and starting over sounds bad

5) unplug iphone from dock
6) turn off iphone
7) turn on iphone
8) plug into dock
9) click update when asked again

10) rejoice when no error messages appear and enjoy the new features!

Hope it works for you too... :)

oops

Ok, I may have skipped a couple steps...

11) notice that your phone is no longer connected to at&t
12) try turning it off and then on again
13) curse when you are locked out of your phone
14) notice that it is asking you to plug into itunes again (like it did when it was new)
15) curse a couple more times
16) do what your told
17) smile when it says phone activated
18) sigh with relief and ponder whether it was worth the trouble

btw this was all done on a week old phone with no third party software and no hacks...

The thing is, does that mean that when the 1.1.4 or 1.2.0 update arrives that we will all have the same problems with updating again?

One day this month I think that I might actually do the total uninstall and reinstall and see what happens when febuary comes.

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I was having this problem and Apple swapped my old phone for a brand new one. If you tried everything and still couldn't get it to update, make an appointment at an Apple store. I got a brand new phone, no questions asked.

Could you please double-check what the new phones serial number starts with?

I've just read a post from someone else on fixing the 1602 error:

FYI...if anyone is getting the 1602 error when trying to install this update, try freeing up some room on your iPhone and then doing the update.

Prior to trying this as a last resort I had tried to restore (failed), reinstall iTunes (useless...didn't work), and restart my iPhone and switch cable (failed again).

However, I freed up about 500mb and it worked fine...go figure.

My process to fix 1602 error

I attempted the "remove all apple software from your computer" earlier this week (twice) trying to restore 1.1.3 to see if it would clear my maps cache. None of that worked. Same error.

When 1.1.4 came out I ran into the same issue. This time I:
- Downloaded the 1.1.4 release to iTunes
- Disconnected the phone from the USB
- Shut the phone off
- Connected the phone to USB while holding the home button down
- This forced recovery mode (showed iTunes logo and USB logo on phone)
- iTunes errored that the phone needed a restore -- clicked restore

Took a while but everything restored at that point. The cache for maps still isn't cleared...
