Now that’s what I was expecting the Apple Vision Pro to look like. Except, you know, without the keyboard.

What cross platform applications does this support (besides I assume, email and web browsers)?

These products give great demo's... (albeit I did check to see if it was April 1st again for this one - lol)... but they ALL kind a fall apart when you need to 'show your boss something on screen' or 'present something'... and this doesn't EVEN have a screen to fall back on!

Echoing other's comments... there are glasses and products that you can pick up that already do this and dont leave you with a pointless headless laptop base.

no thanks.

I have the xreal glasses. the fov is extremely narrow to the point where any movement of the head crops your browser.

that form factor is trash

Sorry. are you judging this product based on another product's weaknesses? Hmmmm... now that I think about it, that Big Mac I had really did suck because the Burger King Whopper does! 🤣

Well … This is cute but the bulk on the top of the laptop, the specs and the fact that only you can see the screen is not for me when all you have to do is buy a pair of AR glasses such as Xreal and connect to any machines, phones or tablets oh yes and game console too you want (which I am planning to do when Apple will release its next M4 gen pro line) Seriously Apple this is what we expect from you not this helmet that only a bunch of people want …

It may actually be higher PPD than the Vision Pro. But that's due to the low FOV, and that's a big issue.
The FOV would have to be *insanely* low for that.

Either way, this is going to be unworkable for people who expect something like a usable 1920x1080 monitor. The AVP with more than *six* times the number of pixels is barely adequate.

Sounds like the AVP, though at about half the price and a quarter the goofy looks.

It's a little like the AVP, in much the same way that a gorilla is like an octopus. The comparison is true, in a broad enough context, but in any useful context, it's completely false.

This is not for me. I'm happy with old tech. In fact, I'd be happy if tech and all other industries stopped advancing ca. 2008. Once the we had the great financial crisis, everything went downhill. Big tech went evil, car makers stopped making good cars (prices shot up, seats got uncomfortable, and they loaded them up with mostly useless tech), computers got worse in terms of usability, etc. The amount of garbage we're seeing now is due to 15+ years of easy money.

I think it's a step in the right direction for the overall concept?

Even if it nailed the CPU and field of vision, is this going to replace your laptop for serious hardcore work or even day to day work? Nope, (though neither is Vision Pro), but may compliment it. Something like this will evolve, and a usage case with glasses that give a proper resolution and field of view, however achieved, instead of a monitor, is what a lot of people can see taking advantage of when things get there.

It's a cool concept setup for casual web based work to be done. I think the example from the video of plane and sitting outside in your backyard/by the pool is a great useage (assuming brightness levels are fine etc).

The privacy of glasses make it ideal for a plane and no one is going to enter your field of view.

For outside, same thing. Work on your laptop all morning, and in the afternoon check on work while outside, enjoying nice weather in privacy of yard, and get some work done without squinting in at a display or tablet.

Until we get easily inserted (and obviously wireless) contact lenses to use as displays, the physical glasses aspect is going to be the biggest factor in this type of computing taking hold. This concept seems to get close to the size and weight that are bearable and feel normal.

I think this is what Apple will have to do if they ever want to make AR Glasses (and ive been waiting for them to do it since Google Glasses came out years ago) -They just need to use the iPhone's processor and wirelessly transmit the display to the glasses.

Reinforces the view that having the external battery pack on the VP, besides being necessary, is first step in getting users used to the idea of having the the heavy lifting done externally by a wired component in their pocket. Don't think using the iPhone and doing it wirelessly is possible due all of the components in the VP which are not supported by the iPhone but we will see.

You can buy the glasses (from another company, same specs) for 399. I just do that and connect to my iphone to watch movies on planes.

Unless they fixed the field of view and locked the axis, this will feel tunnel-vision if you use as a laptop. Also the display moves with your head movement so it can make people sick.
Got a link the the glasses?

I'll probably get a lot of hate for saying this, but I'd take something like this from Apple over the AVP anytime. More portable, more useful and smart that a lot of the processing (and thus weight) can take place on the keyboard component of the device.

To me, the most interesting feature of AVP is the Mac Virtual Display (although kind of limited at the moment) anyway. Having the ability to have multiple windows / apps / virtual displays would be a huge productivity booster and alleviate the need for an external display.
