To all who've had at least a month with their MBAs, just curious to know how much space is still left on your drives?

And what accounts for the largest portion of the used space?

Thanks.

I'm at about 30 Gigs on the HDD version.... about 8 gigs in music 10 gigs in photos and a view movie files... so far so good... mind you I do use a 250gig WD passport to archive some of my old TV shows or movies that I still haven't seen... so if you include those, then I'd be out of space for sure...

I'm sitting at 15.5GB free on SSD. My biggest enemy is the parallels VM at 8GB. Second is my iphoto file at 6GB. I now store iTunes files on an external HD.

This is a company owned machine, so I don't need all my music on it.

11GB, lots of music and VM Ware. Thinking about giving VM the boot. Again this is only a school and email machine.

12 Gigs. Not a huge deal to me, but definitely getting fuller.

What kind of MBA do you have?

And for everyone who has responded: do you notice any performance dips now versus when the HD was less full?

I have 12 gigs left on my mac side and 3 gigs left on my win xp side. I don't know if it's related to that but I've noticed a slight decrease in speed when accessing apps and files. Might just be in my head too.

You guys must be lightweight users. :p

I have 8GB left on my 64GB SSD. Biggest folder is my pictures folder, since I'm a blogger and receive a lot of images. My Pictures folder is 6.2GB. I don't have music stored on the MBA. That's on my Sony TZ.

14-18gb on my 1.8/SSD here, but that's largely due to having 2 VM's on it (1 personal, 1 work). If I remove the office VM I'd have another 20gb!

I've got the 1.6/80. And I would point out that it has replaced my old MBP as my main system for work (I have a Wintel rig I use for gaming at home). My iTunes library is burning 12 GB, 1.5 GB in iPhoto, and a whopping 18GB VM for WinXP.

I haven't noticed a slowdown related to drive space.

1.8SSD with 28GB space left on it. However, I do have my 120GB Aperture library and 42GB Windows 2003 VM Image on an external disk, and my 250GB iTunes library on my Mac Pro ;)

1.8/SSD and I have about 36 GB free. Part of the reason for that is that I store virtually no data on my MBA; my documents (photos, music, web design files, etc.) all live on my Mac Pro server and I edit/use them remotely. Just installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 last week... that took up about 1.5 GB of space.

I'm at about 32GB free, so better than half if you consider capacity to be really like 55 or something with the whole 1.024 conversion a couple times from 64GB.

Like some others I don't keep anything too space hogging on there like photos, or music. I do keep an occasional movie or two on there. 3-5GB that are extracted off DVD, but that is a constant as I trash one I've watched and replace it with another I haven't.

I have parallels which takes up a decent chunk or I'd probably have even more space.

I just got one of those new-ish LaCie Little Disks. Black enclosure, slide out USB cable. I got the 250GB model and partitioned it. A little more than half is for Time Machine and then about a third I partitioned in case I need/want to take along some heftier files, so the internal drive will probably never get too, too full. Pretty sleek little drive. Yes, yes, kills the point of a sleek laptop if you have to take that along, but for the Time Machine part if I ever needed to do some kind of recovery or go back a week earlier when Windoze was behaving ok, it can be a live saver when away from home/office.

My Air is fairly well loaded now with programs, HOWEVER, using some of the suggestions and 'tricks' found on this site, I still have a huge amount 75% free. And I'm pretty happy over that one.

Some of the suggestions that WORK well.

1 - installed and use consistantly, XSLIMMER, which strips off foreign language support, and legacy codings. That saves anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 the size of most applications, especially third party ones.

2 - Using the Time Capsule wireless, I have my entire external iTunes collection, pretty large now, 40 Gigs, on the TC and my iTunes just calls them up as needed.

3 - All DATA is stored on a USB external hung onto the TC via the USB out port, that means my Air really only carries the basic programs and all files are wirelessly sent out to the TC or the USB-TC drives.

Essentially, my MBA is a core use machine, with EVERYTHING possible delegated out to other peripherals or other Macs in the home "system" So, when I'm going to leave with the MBA for travel, I move ONTO the system those music or Podcasts that I will use, and while travelling they are put ONTO the MBA as I download or create files or audios. Upon returning home, I just transfer the appropriate directories back to the storage devices and delete them from the MBA.

4 CoolBook for lowering the voltage has resulted in longer battery life and a MUCH quieter machine with lower fan speeds.

5 - smcFanControl is another must have miniaddon program, having the power to make the fans operate according to the schemes I like.

6 - and of course, LabTick to "fix" the bassawkards light control for the keyboard is must.

Given this setup, I actually believe I will NEVER actually use the entire 74 available gigs in the 1.6 standard machine.

And just about ALL these tricks I got from reading this site, thank you everyone.

PS: - and the Invisible Shield gives my MBA the worlds lightest full protection shell, and my CaseLogic reversable sleeve lets me load it up FAST, and travel light and protected.

THANK YOU ALL!

For me it's the contrary actually - when I started sticking more stuff into the Air it worked better than when it was emptier. -.-
I've got about 35Gb left on 1.8/64SSD.

Around 90GB out of my 160GB...

Maybe missed the point lol, easily done though.

At the moment my Macbook Air is somewhere that I dont know. Went into the store today to see if any SSD's were available and there were none, sad at the moment.

So mine is probably at 64GB minus Operating System & iLife :)
