Apple prefers a thinner device, so they don't put in larger sensors.

On the other hand, Apple adds 3D Touch which adds thickness. Other manufacturers prioritize the camera. It depends on what you want.

stop being nonsense....p20 pro is exactly as thick as iphone x, but the sensor size is 270% of iphone x

I thought you were going to post a great looking pic but instead it's marketing hype from China. Lame.

Nothing can be a more solid than comparing sensor size for photography, if I show you a "fake" photo and saying that is better than iphone then that is marking hype

Physical sensor size (area) is one of the direct factors in low light ability.

yes exactly
I owned many phones before, and the sensor size factor never lies in low light.
[doublepost=1523068173][/doublepost]
Newsflash: cell phones have small camera sensors.

Not anymore. the p20 pro sensor size is same as a lot of dc camera already.

Bigger sensor with the same phone thickness (lens to sensor plane distance) will have greater demand on lenses to control distortions and aberration. As such, the final image quality will likely be adversely affected by forcing a larger sensor.

Look like Apple is just good at earning your money by printing the logo at the back of the phone.

Sounds like you don’t know the 3D Touch film is 0.5mm thick.

3D Touch adds a film + metal plate.

Huawei = 7.8mm
iPhone = 7.7mm

Huawei chose to add a large, deep sensor. Apple chose to use a small, thin sensor but add 3D Touch layer.

The poster is like a non-tariff barrier, engaged by China, in retaliation to Trump's tariff barriers.
BTW 'happyending' in India, is a term used by sleazy massage parlours, to jerk off their clients, after a massage. #justsaying.

Does this mean huawei’s ohoto is 70% better than iphone’s?

Don’t think so. I had huawei p10 and camera is not that much better even through they advertised that as a Camera phone.

I also had a pixel 2 and iPhone X camera is definitely not as good as that. But not sure about this sensor comparison.
Pixel 2 is my favorite camera on a smartphone currently. However, I saw comparison pics between the pixel 2 and the p20 pro and I must say someone can argue the p20 is better ..especially in low light.

Dude, go buy the P20 Pro and quit pissing all over yourself about it. You can whine and cry all you want here but it won’t make Apple recall all the iPhone X’s and remake them with a lager sensor.
There is so much more than just sensor size to making a photo.
And comparing baked in jpgs is worthless to try and determine the capability of the camera system anyway.
There is also much more than the sensor size that determines the worth of the phone. People buy Apple (or whatever their brand of choice is) for many reasons and I’m sure very,very few because of sensor size.

so so much more but the sensor size is the key
sensor size is like the physical potential of a human. Yeah Apple knows how to use advanced software to put the sensor to the limit but still with small size the potential is small.
Other phones have much better "physical potential", and all photos show iphone x photos is way below top android standard now.

Sensor size does matter. However, you can claim a 200% larger size sensor, it's still a tiny sensor when we talk about mobile phones. Heck, the fact that Huawei utilize dual/triple-cameras to improve image quality shows that these sensors are still tiny. You have to move up to APS-C size sensor at the least to appreciate the benefits (eg. in low light). When we talk about tiny phone cameras, the bigger factor is the ISP doing its magic.

Huawei uses a second b&w camera to improve details etc. In contrast, other phones (Samsung, Apple, etc) uses a second camera for a different focal point. This leaves the ISP to do the heavy lifting in improving image quality, and when we see what the Ax chips can do with the limited sensor size, Apple does a really good job.

Heck, one can look at Google, and they totally rely on AI on their Pixel 2 to get excellent image quality without even a second camera.

We are at the point where the software is the key differentiator. So Huawei's claim here is just marketing, since Huawei themselves, like I pointed out, has to resort to a second camera to resolve better details.

Clearly explain why Apple earns so much

The p20 is like half a year newer than the iPhone not really surprised they could have a more advanced camera in it. Low light pictures are nicer but other than that not a massive difference on the back camera...

you know iphone still uses super old tech 1080 screen right? lol

iPhone X:
5.8 in (150 mm) Super Retina HD: AMOLED, 2436×1125 px resolution, (458 ppi)

---

P20:
5.84 in (148 mm) 1080x2244 LTPS LCD, ~432ppi pixel density

P20 Pro:
6.1 in (150 mm) 1080x2244 AMOLED, 408ppi pixel density

From iphone 6 to x, the main sensor is basically the same.

When Apple decides to increase sensors size, all these zealots are gonna praise Apple for being innovative.

Even if the P20 Pro came out almost 6 months after the X, Huawei has been designing it long before the iPhone X was released.

You can say the iPhone is the most popular camera phone in the world but that doesn’t make it the best. McDonald’s sells the most burgers in the world but does it make it better than gourmet burgers? Toyota sells a lot more Corollas than Mercedes compact sedans. Does that make the Corollas better than the Mercs?

DXOMark feels the P20 Pro is currently the best camera on the market by a long shot. Congrats to Huawei for pushing the envelope. Hopefully it encourages Apple to drastically improve the camera and stop giving us good enough image with water color effects and poor low light performance. Portrait mode is nice in the beginning but becomes gimmicky after a while. Just give us sharp and accurate photos with strong low light performance.

I have no idea what you are referring to. However, this much can be said: sensor size alone is not a guarantee for a better image.

The iPhone is the one of the world’s most popular cameras for more than one reason.

Because the majority of people have an iPhone?

I disagree, yes they're small sensors, but that P20 Pro sensor is now as big as the ones found in compact cameras, and larger than 1/2" diagonal. I agree the ISP absolutely is a factor and can make up quite a bit of ground, but don't kid yourself here, the sensor size absolutely makes a difference.

It’s more likely that the majority of people own an Android device.
The reason the iPhone is the most used camera might be because iOS camera is easier to access or the results are more pleasing than the competitors- who should sell more numbers.

The majority of people own a Samsung, yet the most popular camera is on an iPhone. Go figure.
