I was having other sorts of goofy problems (like false error reports) with my RAID before the re-install.

Since the RAID's been working fine without the driver/monitoring software, I didn't install it this time. I should only really need it if I want to reconfigure the drive to a different RAID type, which has a 0% chance of happening.

Maybe you could use the RAID without whatever monitoring/config software OWC uses?
I actually don't use any software to manage it. I use the external drive as a very fast drive for maximum IO speed. The default configuration is 4 sticks of M.2 SSDs in RAID 0, which essentially just gives me the speed boost. Really I'm just throwing a bunch of VM images on it that are running my fuzzing software, requiring a lot of IO and bandwidth. The TB3 connection and the super fast drives are awesome for it!

Alright, with 10.13.5 I'm going to test to see if these issues still occur. Here's wishing everyone luck!

Thank you Steve. I'm still camping out on 12.13.3. Unfortunately, after the last two years or so, I've lost all trust in Apple. I look forward to hearing about your results.

I don't have an iMac Pro, but I'm interested in this topic.

My preference strongly leans towards silence; so much so that my old Mac Pro resided in a separate room at the end of a long cable. Any computer sitting 18" from my ears has to be darned-near silent. However, computing costs power (by definition at the quantum level, even), and in real life power has a cost in noise. An ideal computer would be silent while doing simple things like browsing, but would spin up to the degree that is needed when needed.

Anyway, to the Gods of Apple, do the best you can, but in the end give me the flexibility to choose. Thank you.
