Cannot mute sound on Notifications

Since using Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro, I cannot get my computer to stop reporting my personal Reminders out loud to all to hear. I make Reminders on my iPhone 4S, and it goes through the cloud to my mac, which is fine. But I unchecked the box for Play Sound when receiving Notifications, located in System Preferences. But that does not stop the computer from reading them out loud.

Any other suggestions?

Changing Time Machine Intervals

I've searched and not found the answer to this.
Can the intervals ™ goes by (1 hr) be changed to something else?

I have settled on OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 finally. Been learning modeling stuff, and the installed software works fine with 10.8.5. Haven't checked that compatibility with OS X Yosemite or OS X El Capitan yet, and don't want to.
