This substantial discount proves Apple does understand when demand is low, buyers will respond to a price cut.

It's another indicator that quite possibly AW is overpriced more than Apple realizes.

Bought two today and used the first gift card to take $100 of the second watch. Great deal. Saved $112.00 (inc tax) over buying from Best Buy, which I already did so will return them when they show up Monday.

Did the exact same thing. First watch was a rose gold with lavender sport band and second was a space gray/black sport band (mine ;)).

anyone who ordered this deal online still have their order processing? I ordered on Nov. 25th and it's still processing. I got an email today saying that the order has been delayed from the original delivery day. I also haven't yet received my electronic Target gift card.

Got my shipping confirmation and gift card delivery today. So all is good with the world.

Why didn't u just go to bestbuy? No giftcard just automatic 100 off

Because bestbuy was only offering $100 off on the higher priced models. The sport was a measly $25 off. At Target I got a sport model with $100 gift card and another 5% off for using my Target Red card. Brought the final net price to $233. Way better than bestbuy. Besides, money at Target is as good as cash when you have a family of four.

I had an Apple Watch (42mm sport) at Best Buy the week before thanksgiving when they were $50. I used a mover coupon. I figured I wouldnt want to deal with target's door buster deals. But then, when i was on vacation, i got an email from target saying the $100 GC with an apple watch was live online. I managed to get one and picked up at the store thanksgiving night. The GC was emailed to me shortly after picking up the watch.
I returned the one from Best Buy since it was more than the $300 the one from target cost.

Did the Target deal. 42mm sport. Love this watch. Shipped with watchOS 2, which was a surprise. Thought the reason they had such a generous deal was because nobody was buying these things.

Also, while this particular Apple product is clearly overpriced, I disagree on iPhones and iPads. iPad is right priced for me given how much I use mine, but an iPhone if anything is underpriced. It runs my life!

What discount? The discounts at the b&m stores were part of the stores decision to attract more customers. If Apple did discount them you would have seen the discount available straight from Apple.

I ordered from Best Buy for Black Friday and mine didn't come with Watch OS 2, which I was hoping for.

I bought two from Best Buy, the 42mm Space Gray Sport had wOS1 and the 38mm Gold Sport had wOS2.

I picked up the 42mm a week before Thanksgiving when they were offering $50, plus another $25 for an Open Box which was in perfect condition. With the extra $1 for every $50 you spend using their loyalty program, I paid $318 in the end for a brand new Watch. The charger still had the plastic on the magnet, so I do not think the first buyer even wore it. I upgraded my iPhone 6P to 9.1 and the Watch to OS 2 the first night.

So far, I really like the fit and finish, plus all of the smartwatch features. Unlike some of the others who bought one, I understood its limitations before handing over my money, so no real surprises or unfulfilled expectations.

It doesn't prove anything because there are other facts out there we don't know. But realistically Target, Best Buy, and the other few AW mass market reseller would not take on AW if they thought it was a poor seller. The way retail works these $50 and $100 holiday discounts are likely subsidsidized or paid in full by Apple, not the retailer. The retailer is probably not even paying for the AWs but rather selling on consignment.

The discounts we are seeing is probably part of Apple's holiday marketing from the get go, not a sudden panic driven fire sale. It's a common retail tactic -- make a MSRP that is $X more than it needs to be for the desired margin then sell it at that price plus some promotion -- like a $100 GC which costs the manufacturer less they don't pay full value for it but has the same $100 off perception to the consumer. End result margins are preserved and consumer thinks it got a great deal.

We do know that Apple offloaded its Black Friday sale to retailers so its no a stretch that Apple continued the discount for AW afterwards to increase holiday sales and build up a user base. If every retailer was having a hard time selling AW then they wouldn't be wasting store or ad space (other items that the manufacturer often pays for) on the device. They would just clearance them out at cost or send them back to Apple.
