No intention of bias or similar. But I find these cases are mainly reported from USA but not much from other countries. Me, in Aussie, do not experience any of such unusually high data usage even if I keep mobile data on only for quite a few hours per day. This is abnormal.

Above is my usage over the course of 2 years. I never reset the statistic. Personal hotspot hikes a few gigs in recent months due to ****** ISP.

I’d just like to know what constitutes as “General” usage and how I can keep that from happening again. Maybe it was a one time fluke? But that was almost really expensive had Verizon not helped us out.

honestly the only real answer at this point is don't use the betas. every year folks report weird ass cellular usage issues with the betas, especially the first 5-6 of them.

Let me preface this by stating that I am running iOS 11 dev beta 2.

I played golf today and had my phone in my bag the whole time being unused, just as I always do in tournaments, and I finish and check it only to see several texts from Verizon saying I had gone over my monthly data. That was odd because I wasn’t even close to using my data cap, so I looked it up and “General” had used 11.5GB of cellular data during my round!!!

I have never had this happen and am extremely confused as to what could’ve caused this. I have always been weary of this and have most options for cell data usage toggled off. Has anyone else experienced this with “General” and can anyone offer up some suggestions as to how to combat this in the future? Thanks!

I've not seen this mentioned in the thread yet, but someone else on the forum had an issue with the new iMessage to iCloud upload feature in iOS 11 that caused them to use a lot of cellular data.

They had a lot of media in their messages, so if you do too, perhaps that's the culprit?
