That was last generation with miniLED. This time the 11 has all the features of the 13 but in a smaller more portable package.
The wow of the 13" this gen is still there, it's just in the form factor and weight improvements.

Remember that if you’re having a work session you can use the “More Space” scaling option and get effectively 12.9” resolution on the 11” which enables full side-by-side on most apps.
yeah I do but they are just iPhone apps

Well then the same is true for the 11. Exactly the same performance in a even smaller and lighter package;)
Not really. The 13 inch OLED’s weight and thinness improved significantly over the mini LED version … maybe 20 percent. The 11 inch change isn’t anywhere close to that.

I really thought the 11” would be too small but it’s the perfect size. I checked out the 13” in store today and glad I went with the 11”. I bought the Magic Keyboard today and it’s a lot better than I was expecting. The 11” fits the bill for what I wanted: a device that fits inbetween my iPhone and MacBook. The 13” is too big as an in between device because it’s too close in size to my 16” MBP.

Check out both in store but the 11” with the ‘increased space’ zoom setting is great.

13” might be right for you if you‘re only going to use it at home or you want a laptop replacement.

11” might be right for you if you’re looking for a portable computing device in addition to your MacBook.

Still sitting here with both and can’t decide but the 13 just feels magical asking myself where I can take the 11 where I can’t take the 13. Neither fit in my pocket. The 13 with the apple case is lighter and smaller then the air and fits in all my backpacks and messenger bags.

Yes really. The weight saving comes mostly from getting rid of the miniLED. If you compare the new m4 to the last LED 12.9 Pro (4rd gen) the weight saving is not that significant. It is in line with the weight savings of the 11 m4 vs m2.

I mostly use my 12.9” at home and I find the display much more enjoyable then my 7th gen 10.2” iPad Pro. Even traveling the 12.9” is fine.

For movie watching, YouTube videos, multitasking and just general viewing of web pages the 2022 12.9” M2 iPad Pro miniLED display cant be beat. Im looking forward to the lighter and even thinner (5.1 mm) 2024 13” display. 🤯

I have both and decided I’m returning the 11. The 13 is so easy on the eyes and with the new OLED screen bigger is better. I’ve looked at all my use cases and the size makes no difference The speakers sound quiet a bit fuller on the 13 which os a bonus.

First of all, I wasn't comparing to the standard backlit LED version, so that's irrelevant. If I was comparing to the 2020 version, then the new OLED display would indeed be a big wow factor just like the 11 inch, and I wouldn't have said that the improved form factor of the new 13 inch version was the only wow.

And even if I was, the percentage weight savings from 2020 to 2024 is 9.6% for the 12.9 and only 5.7% for the 11 inch. The 12.9 shaved 70% more proportionally. It's unfortunate that you feel the need to gaslight about this when anyone can look up the numbers and prove you wrong.

2020 iPad Pro 12.9: 641 grams
2021-2022 iPad Pro 12.9: 682 grams
2024 iPad Pro 12.9: 579 grams

2020 iPad Pro 11: 471 grams
2021-2022 iPad Pro 11: 466 grams
2024 iPad Pro 11: 444 grams

I went with the 11" iPad Pro M4 with base 256GB/Wi-Fi only.

Reason: wasn't happy with how M1/M2 iPad Pros kept the better screen tech for the larger size which I never need.
The 11" still is lightweight and portable and still fits in my bag effortlessly. Now the same tech in both screen so yup finally pulling trigger!

Not to mention 13" in AUS is a 500$ extra pricetag for a 'slightly larger screen' and it's too close to my m3m 16" mbp... lol makes no sense
works okay for a Macbook Pro [because you get better thermals 16" vs 14" but not an iPad lol]
Actually the Australian M4 iPad 13" versus 11" is 29% more ... while the US one is 30%. So the ratio benefits Australia's 13" ones.

And screens are not IMO about a diagonal measurement. Just like with TVs, a 75" TV screen is not 15" bigger than a 60" screen. Its area that really counts.

Apples figures for resolution are the same, so the pixel count is relevant in a comparison.

2320
x 1668
= 3,869,760 Pixels
2752
x 2064
= 5,680,128 Pixels
47%

So while the 13" is 29% to 30% more expensive, its area is 47" greater.

How about the negative of its weight? The difference is 30%. Perhaps Apple's pricing is now done on weight if the other specs are similar?

445.0 Ave of 11" M4580.5 Ave of 13" M4

How has the 11” display been? Have you gotten used to it or are you missing the 12.9” display?
I've very quickly adjusted actually - if it were my main device I would want the larger screen, but as a secondary device, it makes the decision of which to use simpler; and the smaller size also means it's much more usable to me as a notebook/document markup tool in addition to my main computer. Very happy with my choice. The aspect ratio makes more sense to me as well.

I bought the 11” WiFi model, then returned it for the Cellular. Now I wondering if I really need the cellular? I don’t travel that much and in the past have managed with the cellular models and just tethered to my iPhone.

Another return? Any advice?

Sounds like you might not need it. It’s useful if you want to avoid burning up your iPhone’s battery and data allotment and it’s just a bit more seamless.

I use mine in coffee shops, airport terminals, and as an unlimited entertainment machine for the kid on day trips.

Yeah, I guess it’s nice to have but my last M1 iPad I had and never ever had a problem with using my iPhone to tether to. I guess you just want to make the right decision within the 14 days you get to decide.

My joy is back with Apple’s latest slate of slates and Magic KB. Have been on 12.9” from the beginning and needed it for research and course papers. I was ready to try the 11” on my last upgrade but wasn’t going to accept the lower screen quality. I believe a poll like this ran at pretty much exactly 50/50 then and now it’s 60/40 to the 11. My 12.9 is paired with a Brydge Max which has (had) a beautiful and functional KB (no function keys—no Magic) and Apple-like huge trackpad. I say ‘had’ bc the original BrydgeCo. was sold and the latest KB has lower quality aspects and no support.

Now that the papers are over (yay), I’m ready to downsize and will have the screen quality with proMotion. Using better adblockers, I also notice that only between about 75-85% of my screen is actually filled with content depending on the website, so I think I can make it work without feeling like I’ve lost much on real estate. And finally, Magic KB has those function keys plus a slick trackpad, so I’m in for both. Looking forward to my entire kit being quite a bit lighter than last time when I just said, ‘Super size me’.

I'm currently in the throes of this decision. I have a 2018 12.9 IPP, and really like the size and the screen quality. I use it almost exclusively with the keyboard attached.

However, I've not tried an 11", and reading others' experience here and elsewhere has made me at least consider the 11". I may have to make a trip to Best Buy to check them both out. The nearest Apple Store, which would be my preference, is over an hour away.

Whichever way I go, the IPP will continue to be my only mobile device. I sold my MBP some years back, and have used the iPad Pro for 90% of my mobile computing needs ever since. Tasks that need MacOS are done on my 2020 Mac Mini i7, which will also get upgraded at some point.

The price of the 13" IPP is, imho, eye watering, and the 11" only somewhat less so. But I plan to keep whichever one I choose for a good while, and can depreciate it for tax purposes.

Honestly, if you use the IPP as your main mobile device, I think the 13" is the better choice. My 11" satisfies a very specific use case for me.... content consumption - web browsing, reading, taking notes, magazines, videos, YouTube, very (very) minor gaming, and urgent messaging / emails.

My laptops do all the rest.

My use case includes the Pencil for notes and does NOT include the Magic Keyboard since my laptop is the workhorse there.

I'm going to guess the 13" is better for you, since you've replaced your laptop with it. If you can see yourself wanting to take the 13" to more places but avoiding it because the 13" feels too bulky, then that's where the 11" can start to shine.

Cost of living now would be skewing the percentages v last iPad release.
11" is cheaper and has same screen now, should of been same last time.
Plenty would have went bigger to get away from the same old lcd screen again.
