11 inches isn’t enough for me 12.9 feels just right.

I got the 12.9" and I'll be honest it is still just huge when you're holding it like on the couch or in bed. It's not stupidly large like the old ones but its still pretty big. That being said, I still am glad I got it over the 11". I use mine mostly on a desk in landscape so I do like the larger real estate. And you do get used to it the more you use it.
I've got to tell you, without the proper context, the title seems a little inappropriate ...
On topic: I prefer the 10.5 (haven't had any hands on with the 11 yet), but I think it's very dependent on use - as more of a "notebook replacement", I'd think the additional screen real estate would make a difference, but as a more casual "in your hands" device, the smaller size was a better experience for me.

There is no right and wrong size. The 12.9” is an impressive tablet that allows for full apps running side by side and the 11” obviously is a valid size since it has a similar footprint to the one that made iPad popular. It’s all about individual use cases. Some people want more portability, some people want their iPad to replace all other devices and some people just want something casual between their phone and their Mac

Seriously though I do think the 12.9 is the better system this year. Of course I already preferred that screen size, couldn’t adjust to the 10.5 even though I tried.
But to have all of that screen real estate in a much smaller package is just great. ReLly they’re almost at the limit, there’s only so small you can make such a large screen.
But I find it much better for drawing on, there’s just more space, even for resting your hand.
The screen is better for Remote Desktop software - if you use it. It’s a better screen to watch videos on too.
For instance, when the wife drags me kicking and screaming away from civilisation, to go to the bloody caravan in the middle of nowhere. (Don’t get me wrong, beautiful place.) I’m still connected to the real world, I can still do everything, almost, that I’d do at home. And it’s big enough that it saved me buying a separate TV.
Plus as I have an actual, properly unlimited data plan for the sim in my iPad. I don’t need to worry about how much we use it for iTunes , Apple Music, Plex, Netflix, TVPlayer (for live TV), or anything else. And there’s no limit on tethering, so it serves (along with my MobileLite) as the internet access for everything else.

I got the 12.9" even though I was going to the Apple store for the 11". The main reason I switched was due to the weight differences between the two devices. While holding the 12.9" it wasn't that different from 11". With the cases on that's a different story but I generally take the case off when using my iPad unless I plan to type heavily.
I would be completely happy if Apple would allow split keyboard. I like to use my iPad while walking/standing and the split keyboard is so nice for quickly doing a search or sending a message.

I'd recommend checking them out in store. I was torn between the 10.5 or one of the new Pros. Luckily, there was one table where the new Pros were side by side, and a 10.5 was on the wall-table just behind.
The first one I saw was the 11, and it legit wowed me. Literally said it aloud. The form factor is amazing, and the screen is awesome. It felt like the first time I held a Samsung Vibrant, or the Amazon Kindle keyboard version.
After seeing it, the 12.9 felt too large to me. Sure, it's smaller than the older version, but it's still a large device. Weirdly, I think it was because it's all screen, and it still doesn't feel like iOS is meant for a screen so large. I say it's weird because I often carry a large notebook and prefer letter-sized paper to write on, and the 12.9 is approximately the same size (if a bit thinner), and it still felt big to me in ways that the 11 didn't.

I went for the 11". I think the 12.9 is great but the 11" is so much more portable. I use mine for narration notes when giving presentations and the 12.9 would be too big and cumbersome. The 12.9" screen size is great though but if its a device for the home, I would rather buy a 13" MacBook and have a 11" to carry around

I had the 9.7 and then the 10.5 but I'd always wanted a 12.9, just not enough to actually buy one because I wanted to maintain the portability of the smaller device. This time around, however, I went with the 12.9 because it's so much smaller than it used to be, and I love it so far. Granted it's only been a day so far.
the 12.9 was clearly too large for me in the store. i travel with my iPad 3-4 days a week in planes and hotels and for content viewing in bed, handholding the iPad in tight seats in cars and planes, reading in portrait, storage in a bag etc. the 12.9 was a huge compromise while the 11 felt PERFECT. if i was only using the iPad with a keyboard at home or flat on a desk for drawing the 12.9 would be much nicer.

I had ordered the 11, but canceled yesterday after seeing the 12.9 in person. It’s just so much lighter, the screens beautiful and a bit smaller. I honestly had no issues holding it, just felt so right.
Going today to pick one up and can’t wait.
I usually use my 10.5 to edit 4K videos, watch movies & YT and surf the net. A bigger screen will be great to work on for me.

Funny enough, now that I'm thinking about a new iPad Pro to replace my wife's ancient MBP (it won't die!
), I'd _probably_ consider the larger one as the best option for her More than one person has, but the posts have been deleted... Maybe we need more creative jokes (full disclosure - I considered posting that myself)
I know what you meant by wierd. I have the new 12.9 and it’s really the same size as a standard paper notebook. I’m not sure why I feel so overwhelmed by the size at times. Even the paper notebook have a bit more writing space than the 12.9 pro.
