I checked them out in the store. The 12.9 is a fantastic size. The only problem is that after holding the larger iPad for a few minutes the wrist strain started to set in. The 11" is still the one to get for one handed use IMO.

I had ordered the 11, but canceled yesterday after seeing the 12.9 in person. It’s just so much lighter, the screens beautiful and a bit smaller. I honestly had no issues holding it, just felt so right.
Going today to pick one up and can’t wait.

I usually use my 10.5 to edit 4K videos, watch movies & YT and surf the net. A bigger screen will be great to work on for me.

What app do you use to edit 4K video on the iPad?

I know what you meant by wierd. I have the new 12.9 and it’s really the same size as a standard paper notebook. I’m not sure why I feel so overwhelmed by the size at times. Even the paper notebook have a bit more writing space than the 12.9 pro.

Great shots. Definitely gets at what I meant. It's like the 2018 12.9 Pro is a reverse TARDIS; it looks and feels bigger than it actually is for some strange reason.

Looking at the third picture (which I tried to embed, but not certain worked), one thing I notice is that with a notebook like you compared, you have margins. Inch margins on every side. That's how we handle paper. Even full-bleed magazines have margins (except for the ad pages). So the fact that the content goes nearly right up to the edge maybe feels a little off, even if only psychologically. It's not wrong, exactly, just something to get used to.

From a writing perspective that also makes me wonder about the Pencil. I write with fine-stroke pens. And I like blank pages I can fill up, but I also fill them up using those fine lines. I'm not sure the Pencil is so precise.

You’re right about the margins, we don’t typically use that space for writing. Even when writing on copy paper, we tend to write as if there are margin lines in place. Unless the note-taking app provides margins, we write closer to the edge of the screen, because the bezels on the iPad act as the margins! Revelation! Even though the 12.9 is closer to the footprint of a standard paper notebook, the 11 is closer to how we’ve been writing for ages in a paper notebook.

There are times when the 12.9 screen is just wonderful to have, especially when you are watching videos or doing split screen.

The new 12.9 inch has been mesmerizing because of the lack of bezels (or shorten) it really feels like a futuristic product. The keyboard (virtual) is a good size where it is about 95% the size of a standard keyboard so touch typing is way faster. I didn’t like that i can’t hold it with one hand for long.

It is definitely a tough choice and i’m going to probably have to try both for a week to finalize. There are times when I do want a portable iPad, and there times when i like it big.

And reading! I think pretty much any medium pick up (newspaper, magazine, novel), you expect margins; maybe people who read a lot have built those margins into our heads.

That was exactly my reaction to the 11 -- "This, this is perfect. This is what I've been looking at all my life in one brilliant screen." -- while the 12.9 felt, to me, noticeably larger than that. I'm sure it's great for videos, but that's not my primary use case.

I have a Kindle Oasis and an iPad Air 2, and I read on both of them, but have always thought of the former as like reading a paperback while the latter is like reading a hardcover. The 11, for me, felt like the ideal form factor, merging hardcover with magazine.

But mileage varies. If you can find a way to check them out in person, I highly recommend it.

I’m going from a 12.9” 1st gen to a 12.9” 3rd gen and to me the 3rd gen is just the perfect size and weight. I’m desperate to get a case for it because it seems so fragile, but haven’t seen one I like yet. The one I want isn’t yet listed as being made by its manufacturer. They made it for the 1st and 2nd gen but haven’t listed it yet for the 3rd gen.

I spent a good deal of time with both and while the 12.9 feels big the 11 just doesn’t have the functionality for me that the larger size does. It’s like the 11” looks enticing but in practical usage I always go back to the 12.9”.

Had a 12.9 gen 1 and a 10.5, always thought the 11 would be perfect. But when using the 10.5 I tend to use landscape orientation with split keyboard. I almost can’t imagine using it without split keyboard, so that was a big con for me about the 11” and no split keyboard. I know it is possible it may return, but it also may not. My main use of my 12.9 is with a projector to display power point slides printed to notability to use in class, my 10.5 doesn’t display enough (not a full printed slide) when connected to projector. Was hoping the 11” would be big enough that I could turn my two iPad system one mostly for work and one mostly at home. But honestly without split keyboard for me, I didn’t even purchase the 11” and try to use in class. My plan now is to trade in my gen 1 12.9 for a new 12.9 and will keep my 10.5 for use on the couch. But of course tomorrow morning I may be back leaning the other way.

I went to the Apple Store on launch day to play with both models and came away completely sold on the 12.9 model. It's stupid light and that screen size is amazing( I currently own a 10.5 iPad Pro).

I have the new 12.9 at home still boxed and sealed. At the moment I can’t see a reason to open it as the 11” feels right (at the moment). Prob will give in a try at some point just to get it out of my system.

The 11” is not at small screen. I think because I use a 15” Mbp the need for second large screen is not there, 11 feels like a natural companion.

I've got to tell you, without the proper context, the title seems a little inappropriate ...

On topic: I prefer the 10.5 (haven't had any hands on with the 11 yet), but I think it's very dependent on use - as more of a "notebook replacement", I'd think the additional screen real estate would make a difference, but as a more casual "in your hands" device, the smaller size was a better experience for me.
Don't even go there...

I never thought I would see a thread where a bunch of you guys would be debating on whether 11 or 12.9 inches satisfy you. Or if it’s too big. But here we are...

I feel the same. It‘s so hard to decide. I have the 9,7 and it‘s great, but I wanted to switch to 12,9 for getting work done. The New 12,9 is amazing, but the 11 is WAY more portable to carry it in the office etc. really hard

Having a 15in MacBook Pro, I went with the 11in model for the iPad Pro (picking it up in under an hour). Having used both sizes in store, I decided to go with a little more portability on it for me. If I have the space to use the larger one, I'll just bring my MacBook Pro, if not, I will bring my iPad Pro.

Definitely no wrong answer here though. First iPad since the iPad 2 for me. Excited to get it in hand.
