Sort of tempted to pick up the 11 inch and have the 13 inch used purely for media content lol
I have the 11 in a nano display since it comes everywhere and lighting can be weird at times, and the 13 for office and home use (mainly on my work days). That being said, Ive been using the 13 more than I thought in tablet mode

That's what I've done. I've used the 13 all weekend and think that the 11 is better to use in front of the TV and in bed etc. My 13 sits in my home office on my desk. Like on Thursday and Friday next week I'll have the Open on while I work and on Saturdays I'll usually have the football on. I know it's an extravagance having both but I also had the 12.9 and 11 M1's. Also, the 11 is perfect when out and about. I got the cellular 11' and have recently taken it on trips to London, Rome and Scotland. It is the perfect size for a tablet in my opinion.

I don’t think there is a right or wrong pick. I had both, it just really comes down to personal preference. Since the launch of the Majic keyboard for iPad, I have preferred the 12.9” because of the space on the keyboard. I use mine in landscape 100% of the time on the MKB.

I now have both. Purchased the 13" on launch to try as I have always had 11", but unfortunately had to take it back due to yellow screen so picked up the 11" instead which was perfect. For the last few weeks I have been looking at the 13" again so decided to grab one and I am very happy I did. I love both sizes and alternate between them. Many call me crazy for spending a little over $5k here in Australia for both size iPads and magic keyboards.

The M4 iPads are disgustingly costly for being just a glorified media consumption devices. I got 2. Wife agreed that we both have this horrible incurable “Apple disease”. We know fully well that we are kinda wasting our money on these useless things but yet we cannot control ourselves.

Anyone else with this Apple Disease?

To some degree

Spending $1100 on an iPhone 14 Pro Max was a whopper but I use it all the time

I got my m1 11” iPad pro for like $500 around launch when they were $800 full price and $800 a few years ago which is prolly easily $1000 or $1100 now with inflation felt like a tall order as you said for a glorified consumption device

So my thought is I’m still hooked to apple products but especially as they aren’t that different I can stretch upgrade cycles to be much longer. I don’t feel like I’m missing much if anything from m1 to m4 iPad Pro. Oled screen sounds nice to some degree but I mostly browse and the screens apple uses even being led are no slouch and nicely calibrated

IMO

Still holding strong with my M1 11", tried both the 11" and 13" M4, obviously nice but so expensive now.
If I didn't have any iPad sure would get the 11".
Mine is still great, heck even my wife's 2018 11" is still as good as new.

I made the upgrade from the 11-inch A12z —> 13-inch M4 for the following:

  • My job is around 90% down time sitting at a desk, so I use my iPad A LOT. The 11-inch was sufficient, but not ideal and since I almost always use my iPad in the Magic Keyboard the lack of vertical space kind of bothered me.
  • I really like Stage Manager as it makes the windowed app interface feel much less claustrophobic than when I’m using full screen apps. The only downside to Stage Manager is that with the 11-inch it shrunk the available screen space down even more, but on the 13-inch Stage Manager feels a lot more comfortable due to the additional size.
  • While the LCD screen was good, the OLED screen is a beautiful upgrade in terms of brightness, contrast, and black levels. The bigger black bars of the 13-inch during movie watching used to bother me but not anymore as they completely blend into the physical black border.
  • Unfortunately the A12z will miss out on Apple Intelligence, while the M4 is Apple’s latest top of the line SOC and should get all the latest features plus 6-7 years of future updates.
  • I really like the new Magic Keyboard with the aluminum finish, Taptic Engine, and function row keys, but the trackpad on the 13-inch is much larger than the 11-inch which helps with drag-and-drop and the overall satisfaction when using the device.
  • While I wish Apple wouldn’t artificially software lock it to new models only, being able to limit the battery charge to 80% is something that I appreciate and look forward to the reduced battery wear over time.
  • Apple has the back to school sale going on, which is $100 off the iPad + $100 Apple gift card + $40 off AppleCare + $20 off the Magic Keyboard + 3% Cash Back ($50+) via AppleCard.
  • The 11-inch A12z was bought on a deal ($550 brand new 3 years ago) so I couldn’t justify buying AppleCare+. Unfortunately it recently took a fall while in the Magic Keyboard, which caused some scrapes and dents in the metal casing which bugs the heck out me whenever I see or feel it. With the 13-inch I‘ll get a brand new device and will have the opportunity to order AppleCare+ in case accident damage occurs.
  • I plan on going back for an online bachelor’s degree (might as well with all the downtime at work), so the 13-inch M4 feels better suited for doing school assignments that might need 2 apps, where the 11-inch felt a bit cramped.
  • I work a bunch of overtime, save a lot, and rarely spend $$$ on myself, so I figured why not treat myself to something that I will like and get really good use of over the next 5+ years 🙂

Your job is 90% downtime, yet you get a bunch of overtime? Is your company hiring?

I have a question, for those that have tried both the 11 and 13, and found the 13" too big/heavy.

Were you using the 13" with the keyboard case or a light folio? I am looking to use the 13" with a light folio case. Would you still consider this too heavy? Or, do you just find that the 13" is too tall/wide, awkward, etc.?

I am not one of those people, but initially did settle on the 11“ before ultimately landing on the 13”. I think for most people, it’s the physical size of the 13“ that makes it a bit too unwieldy as opposed to the weight. It’s not as comfortable to hold in the hands as the 11” due to it’s physical dimensions/footprint.
