I think I’m in the 12.9” camp. With iPadOS my hope is that’s is more functional. On a side note, apple should come out with something similar to iUP. That will probably increase iPad sales and make it more mainstream over computers.

Ugh, no thanks. That'll probably make Apple increase top config iPad pricing to $3K.

I got the 12.9. I picked this one as I was looking for something in between a my MacPro and a laptop. Yes it’s much larger than my old iPad 4 but power wise and functionality it’s exactly what I’m looking for. With the Logitech keyboard folio and an Apple Pencil there is no task that I can’t accomplish comfortably on the 12.9. I felt the 11” model would be too little. With my old iPad which had the 9.2” screen I struggled with documents and other items as it was a little difficult to read and incredibly slow. Like I said I wanted the iPad functionality with the performance of a laptop. I’ve only had it 3 days so I really haven’t had a chance to beat it up but what little I have done it screams right along.

After using 12.9 the 11 just seems too small now...having the pro max as well the gap isn’t enough for me. I can use my phone for a lot of usage but the 12.9 is basically my laptop replacement and with ASK i can use the ipad on my lap enough when i don’t want to use the keyboard.

I've had the 11 and 12.9 latest models since launch last year and I'm still extremely impressed with the display. It's such a gorgeous screen.

It is an awesome display. Right now my MacPro is out of commission as our internet is totally out and I can’t seem to get it connect to my phone’s hotspot. However my iPad Pro 12.8 connects good and with the keyboard it’s just like a laptop.

I'm not sure what the experience with the new Apple Arcade games will be like on the 11" vs 12.9".

i have the 12.9", and i don't know if this is too large to play games on Apple Arcade.

Hi guys,

iPadOS just got released officially, and i must say that it's great.

with the floating keyboard, and swipe to type, and the ability to make it really small, i find that typing now with one finger on the 12.9" iPad Pro amazing!

i think i'll stick with the 12.9" as typing is now brilliant and the size is so much more manageable with iPad OS.

Well done Apple.

Glad to hear. Swipe tying is one of the features I’m looking forward to most in this update, if not the most. I’m actually surprised it took this long to implement. It’s the best way to input text on the tablet form factor, other than maybe hand writing. (Physical keyboard is faster/easier/more accurate but you have to set the tablet down and then it’s more like a laptop, and also since it’s detachable sometimes it’s not available.) Looking forward to getting it on my 12.9 for sure (as well as on my SE for one handed typing!). I’ve been waiting for this for a long time, but I’ll probably wait a little longer to update just in case.

Agreed for 12.9 it’s great to use that feature when keyboard is not attached makes using the 12.9 iPad more manageable on sofa etc

I Love my 12.9, with the keyboard folio, but I do honestly use my 10.5 pro very often as well and love that for different reasons. So you really can’t go wrong, and now that the non-pro iPads have Apple Pencil support the best ipad for many people may not be the pro, especially if you are looking at the 11” pro as it is so close in screen size to the others ones.

Looking for opinions/suggestions.....

I have a work laptop Windows based, but at home I am all apple. I just bought a iPad Pro 11 for taking notes while I am on site doing site surveys and also for at home use using numbers and vlookups as I am not a windows fan and want to utilize my iPad as much as possible.

Thing is I'm torn as I would like more screen real-estate for multitasking while at home but feel a 12.9 pro will be to big out in the field for taking notes. Just looking for others opinions who may be in the same scenario as me or just in general.

Thanks

I think you just have to decide if one is more important than the other (smaller size for the field or bigger size at home). If one is not that important, obviously that’s the one that can be compromised. If both are important, then one device simply won’t be able to do it all for you, and you’ll have to get two devices. Or just deal with a frustrating experience to some degree.

If you do get two devices, one thing you might want to consider, if possible, is going more extreme with one or both of the devices. Either replacing the field device with a cheaper and/or smaller iPad, or possibly getting a Mac/MacBook for home, so that there is less redundancy and more range of function. But only if this helps you at all.

I have two iPads myself—a 12.9 and a mini—and they each have main functions that the other cannot do well. But for me, I need the 12.9” size for work (any smaller won’t do), and the mini is just for leisure, so the mini is expendable if it comes down to it.

Same exact issue! The 12.9 feels.. to big for a tablet? It’s too big for browsing while on my lap etc. and it’s too heavy for one handed use. I felt like I constantly had to readjust to try and get comfortable using it in the couch and in bed.

Rough decision. The 11 is so much more comfortable but obviously video is better on the 12.9
Actually, any iPad of all sizes (even the iPad Mini) Isn't MEANT TO HOLD for One Handed USE like the way how you use your Tiny iPhone 11 Pro Max with your One Hand....

iPad (From Mini to Pro) are MEANT to use in TABLE, with your LAP that's why they have a STAND case (Smart Case for Example)... anyways haven't you seen an iPhone 11 Pro Max with a Keyboard case unlike the iPad? No right?? Because any iPhones are just TOO SMALL to have a bluetooth keyboard, since it is meant to use for one hand... but even the iPad Mini managed to have bluetooth keyboard like Logitech since it is HEAVY and big enough.. how much more the iPad Pro?? Which isn't meant to use 1 hand in the first place.

Not sure exactly what you mean by “one handed use” but—while I agree that iPads are probably mostly used on tables and laps, I disagree if you are saying that they are only intended to be used that way.

I regularly walk around with my 12.9 cradled in one arm, while I sketch on it with my free hand—the same way that people hold sketchbooks, large notepads, and clipboards while standing. It’s not at all awkward. In fact, I’d argue that computing while standing is maybe the most compelling reason for the tablet form factor to exist. If you’re always resting it on a table or your lap, an ultrabook can do that just as well, and some would argue even better. But a laptop is awkward to use while standing, hence the tablet.

As for the iPad Mini—it was actually introduced by Apple as a “one-handed device”, as shown in the picture below—although I think they really push the boundaries of that definition as it’s quite uncomfortable to hold it that way for any amount of time. But the point being, it was intended to be held with one hand in some way or another.

Yeah but how can you use your iPad while typing on it without using your other hand?? Like the way you use your iPhone 11 does.. of course you still need the other hand to touch the screen. You can barely use one hand on an iPhone 11 Pro Max to type faster without other hand it would take 48 years without the support of the other hand.. as for the Picture it only shows how they can grip the iPad Mini but they aren't typing something on it (like the way how they use a big phone) i can see all the veins in their palm trying hard
(Sorry for my bad english)
And yes you can grip an iPad, MacBook Pro 15 Inch with one arm only to carry it even an iMac but just to Carry it.. not to type on it while holding it on one hand use.. since all of them are meant to be use in Laps and table
[automerge]1580202803[/automerge]
And sorry, it isn't called One handed any more but Two Handed. Since you've already use your free hand (Right) to sketch on it while your right hand is gripping the iPad.. and again. It is more comfortable to type on an iPhone 11 using two thumbs but i can still type on it using one thumb... just a little bit of effort...

And i dont think even an NBA Player can use One Thumb on an iPad Mini to type like the way you use an iPhone and how they market it... since it is called "Mini" in the first place. Otherwise it would fall on its hand right away if they try not even for a 9 ft human

I use my 12.9" iPad Pro one-handed to display music when I perform. Having only one working arm, that's my only choice. Large screen vs easier to hold, I went with larger screen. By touching the edge of the screen with my thumb, I am able to turn pages.

Of course, for data entry or work of any kind, it sits comfortably on my lap or a desk. In addition, I use this BRYDGE keyboard—much better than any other I've used and easy to remove when I sing in a choir:
BRYDGE 12.9 iPad Pro 2nd Gen

For complete one-handed use, I found my iPhone 7+ too big and now have an 11 Pro.
