Screen size is still 10.5 inch. The 11” quote is total size of the device. The 12.9 is currently 14” and the new one is rumored to be reduced to 13.x” with a 12.9” screen.

That’s not the rumors I heard. The height of the current 10.5” iPad Pro is 9.8” and the new 11” iPad Pro is suppose to be roughly the same height...but with the slimmer bezels the screen will slightly increase to 11”. Not saying that is a fact, but that’s what a majority of the rumors are saying.

I am an artist - when I got my 2015 iPP there was 9.7 and 12.9.... I returned the smaller one and purchased the bigger one. I did not like having to zoom in and out so much. I find the 12.9 pefect for using. Now for traveling locally, I am really thinking about getting the 2018 9.7 with cellular. I have a 2 year old Asus tablet on plan and it is starting to have some issues. SO I am really thinking of getting an iPad instead. But I have liked having at least 1 android device to play some games on, but I am still thinking on this....

Height when measuring screens is done diagonally. Your reading vertical height, that’s different. Web analytics have already proven the new iPad screen sizes. They aren’t changing.

Technically, didn't those web analytics just provide screen resolutions? Not saying it's likely, but they could certainly stretch the 10.5"'s pixels out to 11" for a slight drop in PPI.

That would distort images and give them a stretched feel more than a blurry zoomed image. Which Apple is unlikely to do as no “Pro” creator would buy it.

So I’m a bit confused. Are we saying that the screen sizes may be in question? From my reading it looks like most agree the 12.9 will stay 12.9 screen size with less weight and overall size. But most seem to say 10.5 will stay same overall size with an increase of screen size to 11 inches.

Is that now in question?

Time for a new iPad....current is 2016 9.7 Pro...great tablet but after using iPhone X for about 6 months now I want a new iPad with same features I hope....11” for sure, hopefully with double the ram

We’ll find out next week. No need to panic. I just stated that web analytics have shown there is no change in resolution so there shouldn’t be any change to screen size either. I believe the 11” rumor is more measured diagnally across the device and is the total size dimension more so than a screen increase of .5”. Where as the current 12.9” measures at 14” across this should now be lowered to 13.x” across both have roughly a 6mm bezel so you can guesstimate a better screen size that way.

I know that, I was talking about the actual height of the device. I was responding to what you said about the actual height of the new device. You said it was going to be 11”. Not true. The height of the upcoming 12.9” iPad Pro is suppose to measure 11”. The height(overall length) of the upcoming 10.5” iPad Pro is suppose to be 9.8” long....pretty much what the current 10.5” measures. The 10.5” is supposedly going to increase it’s screen to 11” but the actual device is going to stay roughly the same physical size compared to the current one. Unlike the new 12.9” which will keep the same size screen...but shrink in overall physical size. Hope that clears it up for you.

As I stated I was talking about diagonally across and the 10.5 inch tablet not the 12.9. The 12.9 is 14” across already and will be trimmed down to 13ish the 10.5 will be trimmed down to 11ish. Nothing points to the 10.5 increasing in screen size other than rumor. Web analytics already show screen resolution isn’t changing at all which pretty much debunked a screen increase, even marginal increase. So the only weight the 11” rumor has is measurements diagonally across.

View attachment 797344 Found these new renders comparing the upcoming 11” & 12.9” iPad Pros. They look accurate. But of course we won’t know for sure until the 30th.
Have to say I don’t love the square edges, reminds me of my old iPhone 5s which I found mildly uncomfortable to hold.

Nevertheless there’s a 90% chance I’m going to buy one of these, and as a current 9.7” Pro user, the 10.5” seems like the sweet spot for me. An extra inch in a similar body sounds pretty great. Not to mention it’ll be cheaper.

The display diagonal of the 12.9, they have been saying will remain the same, with smaller bezels around it. Hopefully rounded corners, since they figured out how to curl LCDs for the iPhone XR.
The display diagonal of the 10.5 was initially rumored to increase to 11", but that was later retracted and it appears the genius in question was indeed talking about the diagonal of the whole device...which is a silly measurement to take of course.
My money is on the two screen sizes remaining the same. Both devices shrinking. Gently rounded corners to please the eyes -- rectangular displays in a rounded corner frame tend to look dumb once the bezels get thin...

This is getting interesting. I thought 11 inch display was solid rumor :))) but now I'm seeing that it may be a smaller ipad with 10.5 screen. o_O

I currently have the 10.5 and love it, easy to carry around and take places.
However, I do much video editing using Luma Fusion and a bigger screen would be nice. Just, bigger is harder to lug around... So this is a hard choice for me.

I’m thinking a full screen 12.9 must be beautiful though, not just for editing but movies as well.

12.9” all the way! Can’t beat a smaller device with a display which is still that large! I just hope it fits in my bag. I should test that since it’s 8.5” x 11”. Shouldn’t be difficult to find something that is 8.5” x 11”.

Larger display in same case size, and same display in smaller case size. The battery is why they got rid of the rounded edges. Batteries are mostly rectilinear and will fit into the edges much easier, providing a much needed boost in capacity to power a larger display and another device which has a smaller footprint. Both are also thinner which seems a bit nuts.

Thanks for the find! I just wish they added renderings of current iPads so we could get a sense of size change.

Although I am leaning towards the 11" as a replacement for my 10.5", I cant see that .5" makes much difference to the screen size...if they increase the screen size at all.
I too would love to see some renderings of the 12.9 because if they can get the form size down to something more portable and easier to hold, I would certainly take an interest in it

Is there are precedent for Apple changing a screen diagonal size by less than 5%?

Why bother? Is it worth the hassle of making developers target an additional resolution and/or having to think about subtly different PPIs?

I believe it would be the smallest percentage increase in screen size in the shortest amount of time since the last screen size change in the history of Apple—minimum gain, maximum hassle. Really does not seem likely imo.

If you have a regular 8 1/2 x 11” note pad laying around the house...that is EXACTLY the size of the upcoming 12.9” iPad Pro according to the leaked dimensions.

I agree. At .5” I’d say “Go Big or Go Home”
