I went to the Apple store yesterday and checked out the new Macbook airs. I'm thinking about waiting for a renewal of the MB pros, but I may have to go ahead and purchase the MB air. I would definitely get the 13" with 128g and 4g. It would be my only computer and the 11" just seems too small in the screen for looking at photos, watching video/movies, watching football on ESPN3, etc. I was able to hold the 11 in one hand, and the 13 in the other, and compare the weights. The weight difference is, to me, a non-factor. I could barely tell the difference. So it did come down to screen size, and the faster processor did help.

As I indicated in an earlier post, the 13" feels lighter since I think it's weight distribution (lbs per sq in) is better than the 11" model. Regardless of which model, I also agree with the 4GB option.

The 11" is roughly 1" smaller in each dimension than the 13". I've found this can make a very large difference in a couple of situations. First is airlines. The smaller 11" fits wonderfully on the tray table, with just enough room for other items, and you can easily open the screen and not hit the seat back. It's surprising how just that 1" makes a difference here.

As someone who has to sit on between 120 and 150 flights a year (work), THIS is what's making it REALLY hard for me to not pull the trigger.

Luckily my need for instant gratification has actually saved me. If I'm going to get it, I'm going to load it up. Ordering online and not having for a week makes it all too abstract. If I could get the 1.6gHz, 128Gb, 4Gb Ram at the apple store, I'd be typing on it already.

Fits places other laptops have had problems, but blows away the rest of the netbook category in resolution, performance, and ease of use.

Resolution? No. 1366 by 768 is extremely common.
Performance and ease of use? Fine. You win this time.

I don't give a rats ass what others think, or if it's "cool".

It's a computer!

The only person that knows what's best for my needs is me.

If more fanboys would think for themselves, instead of turning to uncle Steve or others, maybe...just maybe Apple would not be quite so closed and dictatorial.

+1!

Just checked out the new MBA 11.6; kinda disappointing for my use, too many compromises:

a-weak processor
b-big gap on bezel
c-no backlit keyboard, just as i got used to it being pervasive in all my laptops
d-overpriced when equipped for 1.6/4GB/128GB

Nice design, cute as hell but not what i need right now.

Had it been at least an i3, backlit keyboard then yes; with current setup, feels like Apple is shortchanging user, and squeaking by with what makes most profit not most sense....

Also agree, having to wait to get the 4GB version has saved me from another impulsive buy, thanks Applestore...

To each his own, Flame  suit On!

Which one do you think would be best for university?

11 inch or 13 inch; just for typing notes on, browsing the internet, maybe a bit of gaming (if I get time) but, on weekends I'll use my PS3 with my HD TV.

Also, how is the MBA at editing video using iMovie / After effects like grabbing some 720p footage and putting in on top of other footage?

For example: will it keep up with this, not rendering it out - just doing the editing?
