I will be calling the Apple store say this Thursday to see if I pre-order will I be guaranteed an iPad.

So you want to be one of the 400,000 first shipment that 42% of will have freezing, backlight, dead pixels, battery, yellow tint, and whatever other rev A. first run production issues might come along (remember the first black MacBook), where you will be posting which week was yours built questions and spending 1/2 your iPad time on the phone with Apple troubleshooting and setting up warranty repair and replacements while the people that wait 4 months will thank you (not really) for being the guinea helping Apple fix the productions issues that lab and limited scale testing and production don't bring to light.

Cool, thanks. ;)

LOLOLOL Um... bitter? YES, i will be one of the 400,000. Yes I will be covered with a warrenty as well as extended. Yes, 3 years from now when something goes wrong with it I will get a brand new one (probably with a camera by then) for FREE. And yes, you are very, VERY welcome :)

Whether it has mechanical issues or not. At least by getting Rev 1 now, I get to play with it all the sooner while those who wait, will...wait..and wait. My point is you can spend your whole lifetime waiting for bigger and better, which in the name of progress should happen, but life is short why wait? Those who buy now will most likely upgrade again. Look at the iPhone 2G owners and how many upgraded to 3G? I myself waited until 3GS to upgrade, because the original was enough for me until 3GS came along.

As a previous post somewhere said, it took 2 years for copy and paste to come on the iPhone, well, I'm glad now I did not wait for 2 years so I can copy and paste. I am happy with what the iPad is TODAY and what it can do TODAY. Any major changes down the road will not have as big of an impact as having an iPad and not having an iPad to play with. Besides, most upgrades will likely be software and done through software updates. Any hardware will be minimal in impact. You really think iSight will make much of a difference? Even if it allows facial recognition of users which many hope for, it is only a small chunk of what iPad IS and capable of doing.

I was happy with iPhone with what it could do before App store came along. I can wait for the next updates, because what iPad can do now is what I need. Those who are waiting for Rev 2, will only be salivating over those who have an iPad to play with. And you know you will find yourself in the Apple store someday and decide to go ahead with the purchase of iPad 1.0. You know who you are! moahhahahaa!

i really dont care to wait. ill just buy every one like the iphone. and if i see a pointless update cough*ipod3g*cough i just stay on the current ipad till next year. any way the 3g ipod was ok. just didnt look like 300$ worth for faster speeds and a better what ever to make apps look better that no apps use. tho i haz iphone 3gs. ok enough of wondering off.

I agree. Updates will not make me go rushing off to upgrade. Pointless for me to get 3G when at the time my area did not have 3G. So I waited for 3GS, with improved speed that was worth upgrading to 3GS from 2G.

Not to burst your bubble, but if your 1st gen fails in 3 years (or whenever rev 2 is out) you will get a refurbished 1st gen, not a new one.

64GB WiFi iPad on launch day for me!! Reserving on Friday :D

FYI for the pre-order nubes:

1) I've never seen Apple start pre-orders at midnight, and seriously doubt they'll start now.

2) Apple pre-orders are not processed "first come, first served." Just b/c you order order first mean your unit will go out first. For more on this search back to an iPhone or OS X pre-order and you'll find plenty of people "screaming" that their order hasn't been marked as "shipped" yet when another post notes his order is "In Transit" and he ordered two days after the pre-order started.

3) Apple will not charge you until it ships but it does put a hold on the final amount, so expect your charge limit possibly be reduced after you purchase.

Just giving you this heads up so you don't have unrealistic expectations.

This is all true. Many times I bought moments after the store was updated and received the product w/ overnight shipping after others ordered after me got theirs with standard shipping.

I'd expect the store to go down early in the morning and go live mid-morning EST accompanied by a press release.

My wife is still using the original iPhone bought on the launch day. Works perfect. Never had a problem.
