Was using PPCMC 7's M4A download feature when it just occurred to me ...

Is there a particular reason the PPCMC Downloads folder is highlighted in yellow by default? In my opinion, blue or gray would fit in with OS X's brushed metal / aqua blue color scheme much more naturally, and looks a lot cooler too.

One could also imagine that it would be yet one more detail to 'highlight' PPCMC 7's broad difference from prior versions, as if I recall correctly, that was an inherited quality.

Up to you of course, but I was just wondering if you might have thought of that before.
Sounds good to me, that’s from the previous versions.

I did look into aqua web and it seems AppleScript is not supported as is. Still lots of things will be in the next version.

One thing will be you can send links to the web interface, and on the next launch of the PPCMC 7 app that link will be used for all features.

@alex_free I used to use "Online Video Converter" for converting YouTube videos into audio files, which would only even work about half of the time, and slowly at that. But after PPCMC 7 gained the ability to download YouTube's native AAC-encoded M4A files (to say nothing of its expansive arsenal of other tools), I switched to that exclusively for its inherently higher performance, efficiency, and process intuitiveness over anything else available on the platform - Web included. And with its backend updating capabilities built-in, it's been rock solid and reliable for any job ever since.

Compliments to the chef.

I know it's a late request, but it just now hit me: in addition to H.264 MP4, can we bundle in the ability to download YouTube videos in .mov formats as well, perhaps even with a choice of resolution? At a glance, I wouldn't imagine it would be too much effort to include, but of course I'm not one to know.

I only ask because this would make submitting videos to Cornica (our own personalized YouTube :D) a massively easier process, and may even coax out some higher submission rates as a result.

If everything is already finalized though, this may be something to look into for the successor to the New Years Update.

Just an Update on the next version of PPCMC7...

My todo list for the next version has been ever expanding, yet my time to truly focus on this project has been dwindling. PPCMC 7 is not dead at all, but the next version will take a while to be released, even from the date of this status post.

PPCMC 7 is now my biggest project with the most users. Every release is updated with bleeding edge software, and most of the time new features. These new features are often community submitted requests and testing them to be as perfect as possible is important to me. I take days to test each release once everything is finalized, and even as of now not everything is done yet. Expect something sometime next month for sure!

Still on schedule for 7.2.2, but 7.2.1 is basically useless right now due to YouTube-dlc development dying off last December. I have a beta version out that works on Tiger/Leopard which uses YouTube-dl (which is back on GitHub!) AND supports getting URLs automatically from TenFourFox Boxes such as @Dronecatcher ’s Choob and @z970mp ’s AquaVid (you have to wait for the page to load quite a bit before it can automatically use the URL in the TenFourFox Box automatically at launch)). Keep in mind this is BETA and not release quality but it is better then nothing! Make sure you use the YouTube-dl update functionality ASAP if you download this, and thanks for everyone’s patience as I finish 7.2.2 final. PPCMC 7.0 is almost 1 year old!

Download BETA 7.2.2

7.2.3 - 3/1/2021, This Release Had More Delays Then CyberPunk 2077...

GitHub || Homepage || Macintosh Garden

All streaming options have been rewritten to use direct video URLs, execute in the background, and not use Terminal.app. All of these changes improve CPU/RAM usage and UX.

Switched from the out of date LAME version 3.99.5 to the latest version 3.100 LAMEVMX by Cameron Kaiser.

YouTube-dlc development had died, and YouTube-dl is back on GitHub so PPCMC once again uses the original YouTube-dl.

OpenSSL has been updated to the latest 3.0 Alpha 12.

CURL has been updated to the latest 7.75.0.

The ffplay-yt wrapper now accepts an unlimited number of arguments instead of just one.

TenFourFoxBox URL support has now been added for all URL based options.

The CA Certificates extracted from Mozilla by cURL have been updated to the January 19th 2021 extraction.

VLC.app can now be anywhere, not just in the /Applications directory. The preferences system has been updated to allow you to choose where it is.

Python has been updated from 2.7.18 to 3.6.13, which is still getting security updates until the end of 2021.

FFmpeg, FFplay, and FFprobe have been updated to the latest version, 4.3.2.

There are now 3 optimized builds of PPCMC 7. 10.3.9 using the 10.4 SDK @ the 10.3 API level. 10.4.x using the 10.4 SDK @ the 10.4 API level. 10.5.x using the 10.5 SDK @ the 10.5 API level.

Just wanted to share my recommended workflows for the latest PPCMC 7.2.3.

Due to this issue with TenFourFox Boxes I have changed my habits in using PPCMC 7. If I’m browsing around YouTube or if I have to access Twitch at all, I use a TenFourFox Box such as @Dronecatcher ’s Choob or @z970mp ’s AquaWeb/AquaVid to get to the video and then wait for the entire page to finish loading (Twitch still takes ~80% of my CPU usage in Activity Monitor in TenFourFox Boxes) then launch PPCMC.app.

If I know exactly what YouTube video I want to get to however I’m still using Safari and then launching PPCMC.app since Safari instantly loads YouTube URLs found with google without any ADs and CPU usage is insanely low.

YouTube used to allow you to browse around somewhat in Safari but now all it does is load a grey page (which is all PPCMC needs to get the URL automatically but I wish they didn’t completely botch all other compatibility).

I've been having trouble with PPCMC recently – using a Clamshell 300MHz 544MB running 10.4.11. I've tried downloading a Youtube video / audio with both the Panther and Tiger versions, only to get "incompatible cpu-subtype". I can download the whole video / audio file, but then can't open because it fails to correct container in the script [ffmpeg].

Is there any solution to this?

When I go to youtube using Safari all the boxes are greyed out, but if I go there using WebKit I can see the movie in each box - that via leopard on a G5.
Ive yet to install PPCMC...thanks for reminding me.

My work flow went like this:
TenFourFoxG5 search for movie (trailer for The cruel sea) using Duckduckgo, changed to videos, right clicked on the text 'the cruel sea trailer', copy link location, then fired up PPCMC7.2.3 - 'Download Youtube video as MP4 H.264'.

Hey I need some help, the play media file pulls up a white terminal and does not do anything, also choob says something is missing from it. And play YouTube video doesn’t pull up anything. Did I do something wrong?

Can you post screenshots? Choob is incompatible right now I think, does just using PPCMC work? Ensure you download the latest youtube-dl as well there have been at least 3 updates since I released 7.2.3.

Choob still works, I updated my scripts to work with your latest PPCMC today for @sevenhundred 's benefit - I can't fathom what the particular problem there is.

Yea misunderstood. Did the scripts just need to a change to python 3.6.13? A clean reinstall and updateing youtube-dl should fix @sevenhundred 's issues though I really need some screenshots to figure this out if issues persist.

Why is your default shell tcsh? This error really makes no sense to me, if you changed your shell to that try changing it back to bash.

I am sorry about this oversight, I still can't test on a G3 and alot of things in the way PPCMC 7 is now built changed. Are you and @Dronecatcher willing to test a new release that should fix this?
