My husband has his 5G turned on because he travels for work so does encounter it on a fairly regular basis.

Son and I have it turned off because I know I can turn it on when we visit the 1 town in the area that has 5G. Since we only visit as a family every few months, no sense leaving it on all the time.

I live in the Denver suburbs and travel into the city a few days a week. When I got my AT&T 13 Pro, I tested LTE and 5G speeds and general usability at home, along my commute route, and downtown. While the speeds were marginally faster on 5G in most instances, it was never significantly faster. Plus, the usability was never affected at all by keeping 5G turned off.

LTE suits my needs 100%, so I keep 5G off for the battery savings.

On for now (auto). I’ve got a brand new 13 mini, so if I begin encountering battery drain, I may switch it back to LTE-only.

Honestly, part of the reason I leave it on Auto is that I'm not sure when Verizon is going to roll out 5G coverage to my area, so it's interesting to keep an eye on it and see if/when the 5G icon finally appears.

Disabled, it causes more battery drain and sometimes when the coverage is not great some apps act like there is no internet. Plus, 4G is plenty fast for VoiP calls, streaming, etc. Don't know what will I use the extra flaky speed for!
